Digital Foundry - Face-Off - Dragon's Dogma

David Bierton writes:

"Capcom has managed to put together a competent enough cross-platform conversion which hits the right notes in most areas, but struggles to reach complete parity, and suffers from some severe performance issues on both systems. Image quality is effectively identical, bar the obvious gamma differences and better texture filtering on the Xbox 360, and in terms of the overall graphical make-up of the game there is very little to separate the two at all - none of the subtle differences have any impact on the look of the game or will affect your enjoyment at all."

game is so good. I want a SEQUEL!

Lilioups5105d ago (Edited 5105d ago )

not bad for a capcom game

archemides5185105d ago

this is exactly why sony needs to come out with ps4 NOW. just compare the screenshots.

chukamachine5105d ago

Wtf are you on about, they are near identical.

360 wins in some area's, PS3 in others.

360 tears and drops frames.

PS3 does not tear but drops frames.

Texture wise they are 99percent the same.

360 is way to dark, even during the day and loses all detail in dark area's.

Eurogamer always favour 360 version, because of a demo. lol

archemides5185105d ago (Edited 5105d ago )

1. calm down

2. if you read, the ps3 doesn't win in any areas

3. 360 tears but has a higher framerate virtually always

4. ps3 v-sync is on, but as a result, framerate is drastically lower (the half-rendered frames that the 360 would display are just discarded), and the performance is not up to the 360 in terms of full frames anyway.

5. textures are the same, the filtering is not, but that is not my point.

6. the 360 is NOT dark, they just used that one dark screenshots in comparison to show that the ps3 has less details in the shadows because of my MAIN POINT:

the lighting is drastically less extensive on the ps3 version, which while the 360 looks current gen, makes the ps3 look more like ps2, and there is no way for sony to fix that this gen. compare the pics of the guy in the water, and also the guy on the trail, which one would you rather play?

don't get it twisted, i have 160 ps3 games, but as time goes on the ps3 is performing worse and worse on cross platform games (but not exclusives of course).

TheLeapist5105d ago (Edited 5105d ago )

Haha, luna, you have to be careful to not make statements like "the ps3 look more like ps2" because it just serves to make you look like an ignorant extreme fanboy. Up until that phrase I was trusting your opinion and then after that it went completely out the window.

You basically said that the difference between the last generation and this one is some gamma correction and 3 or 4 frames a second in games. And that's laughable.

yourfather5105d ago

@lunaluagua

you're in N4G,don't be seriously
PS3 always win in N4G

LoL, stop making shit up.

Lighting is the same, more contrast on the 360. Crushed blacks on the 360. check.

You have just shown me, you know nothing about graphics or v-sync.

When v-sync is on, you always lose fps. It's one of the drawbacks. But you get rid of the tear. I find it strange that 360 has no v-sync and still does not go above 30. lol.

Yeah i checked the pics you mentioned, hardly not worthy is it. contrast and slightly better streamed on 360, by like a sec.

Depends on engine, and dev.

This is mentioned below the video of cyclops.

Like-for-like scene analysis demonstrates the impact of v-sync on performance (PS3) and does seem to suggest that if an adaptive v-sync strategy were in place, the Sony platform could actually out-perform the Xbox 360 game.

I play most of my games on PC.

But also have a ton on PS3, and other then early ports, 1percent better on either console isn't anything to shout about.

Dragon's Dogma Is Still Amazing

Although the sequel is on the near horizon, the original Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen remains a fantastic action RPG, still worth playing.

A lot of the quest lines in Skyrim are good(not all and they don’t add up as a whole if you do thieves guild mage fighters guild etc) The dragons are very lame after the first few times and the combat is clunky as it always has been. The stupid sprint button is ridiculous.

Overall I agree DD is the better rpg game.

Both have theirs strengths and weaknesses but Skyrim should be so much more being the 5th game in Elder Scrolls series.

Excited to see what they add on to DD 2.

Unfortunately all they have done to Elder Scrolls since Morrowind is take things out (minus the sprint button which is so lame because you can kill dragon god like creatures but can’t run for more than ten seconds without getting tired)

anast811d ago (Edited 811d ago )

I liked the vampire questline and the return to Morrowind was okay, but the problem with Skyrim was the lack of consequence. There is almost no point in the quests. After I realized this, I started messing around with the mods and then quit playing. Though, I did spend 300 hrs. on modded content, but this is telling of how bad the game kind of is.

If DD was the size or close to the size of Skyrim, It would have been the primer fantasy game back then. I hope they up the size with DD2.

5 Games To Play While Waiting For Dragon's Dogma II

Daman Shelley from NoobFeed writes - Dragon's Dogma is truly a one-of-a-kind game, and there really is no other game like it, but there are a few that come close. Whether with their fantasy settings, the ability to climb mountains, or just with the overall same charm as Capcom’s iconic RPG. Here's a list of games that will hopefully scratch that Dragon's Dogma itch.

gold_drake861d ago

cant wait for it, feb and march are busy busy months ha.

SovereignSnaKe861d ago

I can still hear the title screen music in my head after nearly 12 years. Loved every minute of it.

MrNinosan861d ago

I have no issues filling my time til DD2.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Infinite Wealth and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will probably me more than enough.
More terrified I won't be done in time.

DivineHand125861d ago

Try not to burn yourself out before the game releases. This is going to be a long and immersive RPG like the first one.

The games in this article are all great and I believe the people who are excited for Dragons Dogma 2 probably already played most of those games.

For now, I recommend you prepare yourself for long play sessions if you will be picking up Dragons Dogma at launch.
