Nah,it's a reboot in my opinion since it really doesn't have much to do with the previous titles..

"Is Rockstar's latest a true follow-up to the Max Payne series"

Nope

Good game...great game in fact

But not something I would call a true sequel to Max Payne 3

Just seems like a new IP that was turned into MP3 early on in development, probably explaining the un fitting location and Max's out of character bald look. It's like instead of respecting the roots of MP, they structured the story around whatever game they were planning to make from the start even though it's not very Max Payne like. Hell the game could of probably been an open world, GTA, game set in Brazil with a bald Die Hard wannabe as the main character.

The New York levels are fantastic, showing us that they could of kept it fresh and exciting despite being in the same location as the past two games.

<Small Spoiler>

I'm quite p*ssed off that it seems like they've decided to go with the ending of MP2 where Mona dies. Mona was a great, strong female character...which is quite rare these days and even though they had the chance to bring her back they didn't. It paynes me (couldn't help myself) to play her online with her witty remarks knowing she's probably dead.

I hope they find a way to bring her back in MP4...I actually hope Remedy will be in control this time

NYC_Gamer5109d ago (Edited 5109d ago )

I agree with you....R* version just doesn't capture the original vibe/story/style of Max Payne created by Remedy at least for me...R* has a lot of talent but MP is better left in the hands of Remedy.

I have to disagree with you here.

Sometimes you have to change a character in order for them to grow. Shaving his head bald made sense because I'm sure he didn't want to be recognized when he was in the favela. This also explains the awful shirt he was wearing too lol.

All Rockstar did was put Max in a different environment, because having him on the New York streets would make MP3 just like the previous two games. I guarantee you that people would complain if they didn't..

Thats just a poor excuse

1) It's Rockstar...people wouldn't of complained. Rockstar knows this themselfs

2) As I've said with this current gens tec and graphics they could of made a cold, gritty New York look amazing and because it's on this gen consoles it would of felt fresh.

3) Characters need to grow not change into something which look nothing like what they used to look like. Hell the way Max changed wasn't even something he would of went for anyway.

"Shaving his head bald made sense because I'm sure he didn't want to be recognized when he was in the favela"

They could of structured the story differently...it's not like they were forced to go with that one path in the story.

Rockstar didn't just drop Max in a differen't enviroment, they changed most things on what a Max Payne game was all about. I mean you can't just go "Oh it had Bullettime...it's a MP game" because there was a ton of stuff which was put into MP and MP2

I enjoyed the game as for what I was looking for, a good TPS with a good story.

Direct sequel to the events of Max Payne and Max Payne 2? No. Continuation of Max's journey? Yes. It's clearly not a reboot, as he wouldn't be the age he is and the setting wouldn't be described by Rockstar as "two years after the events of Max Payne 2."

TheSanchezDavid5105d ago

I think it takes place eight years after the events of Max Payne 2, not two years. Either way, the continuity was sketchy, which is why I personally think of it as a reboot.

I got 80% trophy completion on Ragnarok but left a few of the battles. Will come back to it one day.

Miraak82 1059d ago

Dragon Quest 11 is my top pick

RpgSama1059d ago

Dragon Quest XI was such an AMAZING game, I had a blast from the very beginning all the way to the very end, it actually got better the more you played, full of surprises as well.

Another game that I enjoyed from the very beginning all the way to the end of the 100% completion was Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Really, really, really fun game with a great heartfelt story.

Where is Horizon Zero Dawn?? where is Ghost of Tsushima?? I just got my Platinum on HZD and is now trying to finish the Frozen Wild expansion. so much care and love went into that game and it really shows. I especially adore the lore and have sunk many hours listening to the logs and reading journals. the back story is great and the gameplay is awesome. can't wait to replay on the hardest difficulty on NG+. next in my list would be to finish GoTsushima

Tacoboto1059d ago

Ghost was fantastic especially after Iki Island and the PS5 upgrade. 100%'d that, Horizon Forbidden West (not ZD), GoW (not yet Ragnarok), Spider-Man, and R&C: Rift Apart.

Each one absolutely worth it.

Aloymetal1059d ago (Edited 1059d ago )

100% I would like to add to you list RDR2, amazing as well and the perks from getting the Legend Of The East outfit is awesome.
Sekiro as well, have to play twice to get it but it's worth it!

Demetrius1059d ago

I agree I'm on my 2nd playthroughs of both horizon forbidden West(zero dawn I played also) ghost of Tsushima except I'm replaying it on PS5 this time, the iki island expansion is amazing

ClayRules20121059d ago

Yeah, GoT was already an AMAZING game on PS4, but playing it on PS5, along with that expansion, just even better.

Elda1059d ago

I just started my copy of GOW:R, enjoying it so far.

DefenderOfDoom21059d ago (Edited 1059d ago )
