Socom 2 is still the most times I played online for me, I never came close when I plat COD. Now days just netflix for me...

I have 3 current 360s that are working (for Forza multiple screens)
Ive had two 360s fail. Samsung drive, and RROD.
I own two PS3s, a launch phat and a slim. So Im a gamer, not a fanboy.

This is a sad day. If all thats left in the console shooter market is CoD and BF then I am done.
I can't play these new 12v12 respawn deathmatchs because there is little to no strategy. If I want to play a tactical shooter I guess I'll have to do it on a PC.

I all most always played in Canada West.A lot of the fun was chatting in the game lobby before playing a match.Some of the great characters I met were Funky,Duffman,Ace,Natural,Fat Bast@rd,Keyser Sosa,Lizardman,Psycho,and so many more.Sitting in a lobby chatting while a couple of clan members fanned out to find a clan challenge.Then heading to the challenge room,talking smack,then playing was a heck of a lot of fun.Very nice gaming memories.

This is why I am pissed at Sony. Look how they handles Socom this gen. To me Socom is superior to Killzone, Resistance, uncharted. But they treated it like a step-child. This gen was made for Socom. They could have been what COD is now. They dropped the ball. All those studios but yet we haven't had a decent Socom game this gen.

its very sad the the online gaming scene peaked when Socom2 released......10years ago.

the fact that no other developer has integrated a lobby system like the Socom Series makes me sick that its all about money for all of these developers and publishers.

MAG will be next. It's like a ghost town now. Can't even get a DOM game going much anymore at all. That is the best FPS I've ever played as far as game play. Nothing like DOM ever.

Well, SOCOM online community - goodbye....although I will STILL play the single player missions over and over and over....thank God for single player, and THANK GOD i did NOT pay for the "on line only" version called SOCOM Confrontation...this is the very reason NOT to buy on line only games.....kiss your money goodbye if you do!!

This is a very, very sad announcement for the Socom community. I hope they (Sony) don't think that this will boost Socom 4 in any way by taking away the other options because it won't. Honestly, I haven't played any Socom for a while since 4 came out but the fact that the option to sit down for some good ol' SI/II will be gone is almost sickening. 10 years worth of usernames, clans, profiles and stats - my mid to late teenage years - gone in a instant with the flip of a switch...Tis a sad thing indeed.

Very sad. I hope they bring it back in some form.

I met the coolest people in Socom 1 & 2. Till this day I still play with them, but not Socom.

Socom fans should check out the current socom confrontation, flawed, so flawed, but as close to socom this gen as you will get. Socom 4 is a good game but not a socom game.

Socom fans should also check out Arma series on pc.

Sadly Konami is shutting down the metal gear online servers which is also a great tactical game.

Ghost Recon, socoms true competitor at one time is no more a good TTPS than SOCOM 4 is.

Honestly, the best we are going to get is Bad Company 2 which is a first person shooter but at least its not a run and gun.

I read the article and is doesn't say Socom 4 anywhere. It list all other Socom except 4. Well i have np with Socom like most people , but i only play Cassic mode which is nothing like the respawn mode. To me classic plays just like the old Socom.

I loved Socom. The original socom got me to buy a ps2 and broadband Internet connection. Socom 2 was imo the best and most addictive online game. I've played most of what people consider great online games, still there is nothing like socom. I had an amazing time with the game and will always remember the fun I had. Time to move on R.I.P

Amen to this article. Socom 1 was and still is the best tactical team based first person shooter.

Such sad news...I know they've supported the servers long enough, but idk, I guess I thought I'd always be able to go back and play SII.

I hope someone gets some sort of kickstarter going to keep the servers up. I'd definitely donate to that

The main reason I even bought a PS3 was for SOCOM!

I really hope Sony are not so stupid that they don't release an HD version of the greatest tactical online shooter that started a lot of peoples online gaming on their PS2.

I love Socom, Socom 4 was a big fat moronic experiment to try to get COD players to play Socom. COD players...ARE the reason game developers are getting lazy nowadays, (D)isk (L)ocked (C)ontent "Give us Money", Sequals "Give us Money", and slap on the name of a great franchise then give us crap and still take our Money.

R.I.P. Socom. I will make sure to play some Socom 1 & 2 on my good ol' 60gb PS3 which Sony wants to forget exists, until it's final days.

Sad day. It obviously had to happen eventually, but I think everybody hoped they would pull their heads out of their collective asses and re-release the games for this generation before shutting the old ones down.

Those games still manage to get around 200 people on simultaneously on the weekends, probably a lot more in the next few months after this announcement. That's easily a few thousand unique players who are all going to have no real viable alternative once this shutdown happens. There really aren't any games this generation of consoles that can stand up to the level of interactivity, control, and detail of a game released a decade ago.

The entire gaming fanbase is being forced to bow down to the A.D.D. whims of the casual gaming market.

I wish Metal Gear Online stayed for 10 years :(

SOCOM is why many even have a PS3... But on topic, I believe the servers are closing only to re-open with fresh servers for an HD Collection or another SOCOM by SlantSix... if they are re-opening the servers as 'new', then it's because they know no one will play an HD Collection with hacked up, cheated on, lagged out servers... frsh game - fresh servers... end of story

Man this series really dropped the ball... it's a shame considering how many people went nuts for it!

Socom 1 & 2 gave me memories like I had with the Sega Dreamcast. Hopefully we get a Vita version.

SOCOM on ps2 was the best online games i have ever played they ruined my life but i never had such a good time playing a game ever. I still play with the same clan from the SOCOM 1 days US East 4- METAL =POA= -TA- -HH- RIP. best of the best On top of GB in socom on and off. dam I need to get them back on before they go down.

I still play SOCOM Combined Assault every day on PS2. It stupid that Sony dose not remake one of the PS2 SOCOM games. Every time i bought a Sony system it was for SOCOM. My PS2/PSP and PS3 i bought for SOCOM. The SOCOM games on PS3 are not real SOCOM games. That why i still playing on my PS2.

Just signed up to this website just to say how amazing SOCOM 2 was... Nothing has come close to the experience i had with this game.

It's a sad day. I have such great memories that were built on those servers and game. Please Sony reconsider and build us a remake of our game!

SOCOM is the only reason why I am here typing on this blog, own 2 forums, was flown to Zipper to play SOCOM 4, called PAUL-AWOL- by guys who I have known for over 10 years of gaming, own a PS3 and sitting next to it is my original fat PS2 with the Hard Drive,, ohh can't forget about SOCOM 2 sitting in it.

I have never traded in a SOCOM game and own them all along with a signed copy of SOCOM 1 from the man himself, Seth.

Sony, don't remove what is left of great gaming, yes I am a fan and should matter.

SOCOM was my first and best online experience ever. When I first heard people talking in the game on the mic I was like, holy crap, this is awesome. Everyone was respectful and played with teamwork. This and Battlefield 1942 (original on PC) hold that title that can't be beat.

Have a couple of them still. White Star Wars and a silver one. My son and I played them a ton especially Monster Hunter
