Of course they can't confirm the Unreal engine 4 for the Next Gen systems until Sony and MS confirm the Next Gen Systems.

@ E3 they may say "Yes UE4 for Next GEn consoles" but they can't say the name of the console until Sony and MS give us the name next E3!

P.S. still waiting for that so called Super Secret Game that was in development that Geoff Keighly promised to reveal.

GamingPerson5085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

I guess anyone with a gtx680 or higher is ready for next gen of games. I will wait for gtx 780 early next year.

I hope the Epic pc exclusive will be UT4.. Time that series go back to it's roots.

mewhy325085d ago

I just bought a new gaming pc and I hope that something huge is revealed at E3 this year. I mean something that can really push the envelope.

Pain_Killer5085d ago

GTX 680/ HD 7970 are more than capable of running anything you throw at them.

Its time we (PC audience) adopt 4k resolution displays while these so-called next-gen consoles adopt 1080p as standard res.

@Gaming The GTX 780 is GK110, twice the performance of GK104. That card itself would be a monstrosity, sure you can handle all its power? ;)

BlackKnight5085d ago

@Pain_killer

1080P is fine. 1080P with *SMAA 4x would be perfect as far as screen clarity/resolution and anti-aliasing.

What we need is full usage of DX11/OpenGL 4.2 and implementing alot more complex, realtime lighting systems, and stop doing alot of the tricks that are done on consoles. A game like crysis 2 or BF3 should be done with cubemaps (at least Crysis 2 on PC got real time reflections on all reflective surfaces, but strangely LEFT the cube maps too).

Things like this that are running so well on medium-ish PCs should be cool, optional features of PC games RIGHT NOW.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

This solves so many of the tricks that games use right now for soft shadows, specular lighting, ambient lighting, reflections and radiosity, all in one package. All of this is real time and not "faked" or pre-baked.

And this is just on the graphics side. Physics, AI and animation could make leaps too but there just isn't any power left in the consoles, and even the ones coming are barely medium/mainstream PC specs of today. That's what PC gamers need, not a simple res jump, but jumps in actual accuracy and quality of effects and rendering.

@ ATi_Elite

UPDATE: Epic says it has not declared its Wii U strategy yet.

Haters sure love to misrepresent information. Nothing has been confirmed as Nintendo still have the gag order. The gag order will be lifted next week. Take a look at this link.

ATi_Elite5085d ago

I didn't say anything about Nintendo!

So I hope that whole......"Haters sure love to misrepresent information......" bit wasn't for me cause I didn't say anything about Nintendo in my post!

Matter of fact No one else has said anything about Nintendo so what the HELL are you talking about?

I'm sure Nintendo will announce what it needs to announce during E3.

N4g_null5085d ago

The engines scales and will be tweaked based on color fidelity. You can still use the old tricks.

megacowdung5085d ago

An unreal 4 engine? I'm ready to puke rainbows.

Jazz41085085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

I love me some hot male rainbows. Jk. I am hoping unreal 4 goes with a more realistic look other than that steroid plastic look that most of its games suffer from.

Keighley also said UE4 isn't heading to Wii U - but that isn't necessarily true.

DeadlyFire5085d ago

Well with UE 3 being optomized to even be used in Mobile phones in the future. Also with Epic claiming years ago next gen consoles were a sole focus for Unreal Engine 4. There is very much so a place for UE 4 to be optimized for each platform. Each might have strengths and weaknesses, but still all in all the engine would be roughly the same.

TheGameFoxJTV5085d ago

UE3 is already on phones isn't it?

STONEY45085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

It's been on iOS (and I think Android too) for a couple of years now. Infinity Blade 2 has amazing graphics, even compared with the 3DS and Vita.

STONEY45085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

*accidental post*

eagle215085d ago

What confuses me is we haven't seen any current gen games using UE3 look like the GDC 2011 Samaritan Demo in real time. Makes me wonder if developers will ever go broke to push UE3 engine to the limits, I wouldn't. Why hype up UE4 with no games coming out within 2 years using it in its infancy? A great game takes time and talent on any engine so i'm not really hyped about a tech demonstration.

STONEY45085d ago

There was a really long post about the private UE4 demonstration. UE4's main goal is ease of development, while pushing graphics to a whole new level. They went into detail about how they've made development even easier than UE3 in many places.

The tech demo shown to the small group (public will see it in June) was also running on a single GTX 680. Apparently the people in the room were stunned because it was being played in first person right there instead of the usual visual tech demo, and supposedly it looked better than Samaritan. The demo was also done by a small group of 14 people in 3 months. Imagine a whole studio of people with the final engine, and years of development time.

Basically, UE4 is a huge deal because it's going to drastically reduce development time and costs and is extremely well optimized, while giving a huge leap in graphics.

theone265085d ago

Rest assured UE4 will be on both xbox 720 and PS4, Epic must recuperate millions of R&D on UE4 and the bulk of that my friend, will solely depend on nextgen consoles.

Maldread5085d ago

First Epic says not even PS4 and the next Xbox can handle UE4, and now Wii U can??

Sounds like someone is overhyping their engine.

ozstar5085d ago

A lot easier than hyping their games (ahem, Fortnight).

Halochampian5085d ago

Where does it say anything about Wii U handling UE4?

FrigidDARKNESS5085d ago

It has been reported earlier today by Geoff Keighley that the Wii U can't run UE4.

Disney Should Buy Fortnite And Epic Games, Former Exec Says

The Walt Disney Company's new CEO, Josh D'Amaro, is a big fan of video games, and one former Disney executive believes D'Amaro would be smart to do even more in gaming going forward. This could include a buyout of a gaming company like Epic Games.

In an interview with CNBC, Kevin Mayer--a former Disney and TikTok executive who now runs Candle Media--said D'Amaro will need to take "bold steps" to help Disney make more money and grow its stock price. One part of this could be doing more in gaming, he said.

Apparently nobody remembers the absolute shitshow that happened when EA brought the Havok engine which was used as the default engine of the 6th generation like UE is used today.

SkilledGamer31d ago

You've got it wrong, EA bought Renderware not Havok. Havok was bought by Intel in 2007 and then Microsoft in 2015

Fishy Fingers31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Nor was it ever a widely used or considered, game engine, Renderware was. It was and still is a physics/material simulation plugin for the actual game engines.

Profchaos31d ago

Yeah you're right i was thinking of Renderware. But point still stands Renderware was used literally everywhere from games like GTA 3,VC,SA to Sonic games and Tony hawk it was really the default industry wide engine that UE is today.

If Disney takes over Epic and UE we could face a situation where they change the terms of use for other game devs big and small. They could remove the licensing agreements currently in place and impose a payment per download model like Unity did which could cripple the industry.

TOTSUKO31d ago

Fck Disney stock and their shareholders.

blacktiger31d ago

Well I can imagine DIsney with their transgender Snowwhite and black cinderally and mermaid and other garbage. Imagine video games lmao!!!

shinXseijuro31d ago

You sound like a fun person to be around .

Huey_My_D_Long30d ago

Dumbass cant even spell Cinderella but apparently he's upset by the 1997 Cinderella classic starring Brandy. Almost 20 year old movie.
Just say you dont like black people man, we all know it.

rlow131d ago

I really hope this doesn’t happen. They ruin everything that they buy. Terrible company

Zerobalance31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Trolling. Hope Disney take the Maval characters like Spider-Man and Wolverine away from Sony and make it themselves that would me laugh so hard.

"It is going to get so much worse in the video game industry...This will get worse and going to be bad and it's going to eventually get better." -Greg Miller right before it got worse

Agent7533d ago

Too many games, too many versions, download only games, game pricing, £700+ consoles, eye watering prices for controllers, four formats, gaming is one big mess.

gold_drake33d ago

id argue that epic games has alot of other revenue income other than fortnite, so their reasoning makes zero sense.
