Additional E3 Unreal Engine 4 Demo Details, Wii U Support Commented On

Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 has been used to create some of the best games of the generation – Gears of War, Batman: Arkham City, and many more. As the next-generation nears, Epic is busy tuning Unreal Engine 4 and today it was revealed that Unreal Engine 4 will be shown to the masses at E3 2012. Additional details on the Unreal Engine 4 demonstration were shared this evening and it sounds like something gamers should look forward to come next week.

"As for Nintendo’s Wii U, many have wondered whether the new machine will be capable of running Unreal Engine 4 and it seems that question has been answered this evening. When asked if the Wii U would be able to handle Unreal Engine 4, Keighley replied that during GDC Epic’s Mike Capps said “Wii U will be Unreal Engine 3”."

The Wii U not running UE4 wouldn't affect me much seeing as I have a gaming PC (meaning I'll have UE4 access of course), but this will definitely hurt Nintendo in the long-run from a business standpoint if true.

BUT, at the same time, developers are under NDA, so it doesn't seem right how the president would come out an confirm something like this, weird.

If false, good for Nintendo. If not, to my gaming PC I go. That's the beauty of owning multiple platforms lol.

GammaSix5099d ago

Makes perfect sense, which is why i will be soon getting a gaming rig!

I enjoy ps3 exclusives but it only makes since to get the full experience of multiplats on pc

ApolloAdams5099d ago

I swear you won't regret the decision and you will see it actually makes more economic sense to get a gaming machine.

wait a little if you can i heard intel will lower their sandy-bridge CPUs soon. it will be a great opportunity for many to build an i7-2600k or an i5-2500k rig.

ApolloAdams5099d ago

I love the way you think. What is your PC specs by the way?

Shok5098d ago

It's nothing crazy high-end, but:

AMD Phenon II 3.4 GHZ x4
4 GIG GSKILLZ RAM
GTX 560

osamaq5099d ago

great news ...

but after seeing the images of UN4 i wasn't that impressive..

not like when I first saw the samaritan demo before ...

redDevil875099d ago

So is this what Geoff was talking about? I hope note -_-

Yangus5099d ago

UE4 not running WiiU.....sad....very..sad....

Titanz5099d ago

Though this bit of news has left me terribly, brokenhearted. :(

admiralthrawn875099d ago

too bad you can't see through PR talk. He dodged the question by answering with something irrelevant. They haven't even said if ps4/next xbox will use it or when the time frame for it is. They would dodge the question the same if you asked them about that.

GraveLord5098d ago

It's not surprising at all.

I knew UE4 would never run on Wii U. Some Nintendo fanboys owe me an apology.

yabhero5098d ago

Did he say it wouldn't run UE4? No he just said it runs UE3. It's call NDA he's not allowed to talk. I'm sure PS4 and NextBox will run UE3... Does that mean they won't run UE4? No...

ApolloAdams5098d ago

PS4 and Xbox Loop probably won't run it either and if so it will be very lite version of it.

WitWolfy5098d ago (Edited 5098d ago )

Was to be expected.. Plus hasnt it been said before that the WiiU has more or less current gen hardware specs??? I'm sure it has been hinted by Nintendo themselves that it is twice as powerful as the 360/PS3.

yabhero5098d ago

It has been said by fanboys and haters... Actually debs like Epic and Crytek and Gearbox have said its substantially more power... Whic shouldn't surprise anyone. In order to make WiiU on par or close Nintendo would have to special order crappy old tech. An AMD chip on market is at least 2x PS3.

WitWolfy5097d ago (Edited 5097d ago )

dude seriously, we all know Nintendo was boosting trailers of games that could only run on current HD consoles so I dont see why everybody is so convinced that the Wii U is going to be yet another monster HD console, when we know Nintendo is mostly for the casual gamer.

Fans??? This is done by one person

WoodsRatesGames1835d ago

Someone else was commissioned to do the music and another person modelled the batmobile. Links to all involved are included in the article.

They should have been made a batman game for the best batman movie. This looks amazing and now I must watch the movie.

Am I crazy or is there an Unreal Engine 5 now? Why promote old tech?

waverider1855d ago

I really dont understand either? isnt the Unreal Engine 5 already available for studios? arent they already working with it?

masterfox1855d ago

UE5 Is for PS5 only, deal with it! :D

***runs away from this thread with pride!**

Tacoboto1855d ago

UE5 is not released yet and developers for years will still make UE4 games because that's where their tools and customizations are.

Mortal Kombat still uses UE3. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is also still UE3.

Magog1855d ago

That more of an embarrassing indictment of those devs than a reason to promote old software.

Tacoboto1855d ago

Embarrassing indictment? You know nothing of software development then.

Spenok1855d ago (Edited 1855d ago )

Because a ridiculous amount of the industry still uses 4, and because no, 5 is not out yet. They said it would launch later this year.

AuraAbjure1855d ago

Companies still use Unreal Engine 3.

Really impressive tech but I don’t even notice all of these benefits in real life, never mind being chased by zombies in a video game. Rather devote resources to resolution and frame rate.

Magog1855d ago

If you suddenly stopped casting reflections in a mirror I think you would notice.

Edit: i misread this.

Yes after seeing the Unreal 5 ps5 reveal, I thought that's where we were heading. But saying that I have read various articles that suggest its easy for developers to still work on Unreal 4 and carry everything over to Unreal 5 when needed, we shall see.
