It’s up to Nintendo to save E3

TVGB: "If you’d asked me back in December, I’d have told you that E3 2012 had the potential to be the biggest in show history. Not only were rumors pointing towards both the PS3 and 360 successors getting their much-anticipated debuts, but Nintendo were to finally shed more light on the Wii U, while this looked to finally be the year that Valve lifted the lid on Half-Life 3."

Nintendo save E3? LOL. Sony's already got that covered (while also saving the core gamer market too).

PopRocks3595119d ago

With Move and a Smash Bros. clone?

BattleAxe5119d ago (Edited 5119d ago )

No, with GoW: Ascension, The Last of Us, Playstation All Stars, games for the VITA (maybe Call of Duty VITA), two unannounced PS3 titles and a possible Onlive partnership announcement.

On the flip side, what has Nintendo got up their sleeves? Maybe they will have finally figured out the specs of their new console? Maybe they'll show some casual games? Please Nintenoobs, go back to your last generation Wii now.

PopRocks3595119d ago

@BattleAxe

You seem like a twelve year old. I don't suppose the average Xbox Live users have migrated to PSN? In which case, Sony lovers, I feel your pain.

Of all the things you listed, I'm only interested in GoW: Ascension. Banking on CoD for the Vita and Sony Smash Bros. does not sound like my cup of tea. The Last of Us I'm not particularly interested in, though that's largely because the trailer from last year had no gameplay in it.

On the flip side, Nintendo will more than likely show off Pikmin 3, Retro Studios' current development project adn whatever else they choose to surprise their audience with.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the entirety of the last two generations, you'd know that Nintendo is notoriously secretive when it comes to E3. Rightfully so since Sony half-assed motion controls into the Sixaxis controller.

Honestly, Nintenoobs? Grow up kid. I may a be a bigger fan of Nintendo than Sony, but even I wouldn't say something sow low brow and stupid.

Whoa whoa whoa, I agree that Nintendo has the highest chance of "winning" E3, but why just automatically assume Sony will have a bad conference?

Doubts for Microsoft's I could understand. And yes, a lot of Sony's E3 content gets announced or leaked before E3, but their conferences have never been actually "bad" (minus 06 lol.) They always have TONS of content at their conferences.

iamnsuperman5119d ago

Exactly and what about the publishers. Ubisoft last year, for me (even though I do not believe who "wins"), "won" E3. Their conference was very good. Sony always has a good conference. Microsoft needs to get rid of the cheesiness and show more core games that are not the multiplats.

CouldHaveYelledUiiW5119d ago

Agreed, I am going to watch ALL 3 Shows. And then I am going to stare over every crumb that falls out of E3.

My heart is with Nintendo but that does not mean Sony and Microsoft ain't sexy sometimes.

Plus, the different game developers are always interesting.

Hicken5119d ago

Article fails to explain why gaming is in danger, why Sony and Microsoft can't or won't face the phantom threat, and what Nintendo can and/or will do in their stead.

In that respect the article fails, because it has nothing to do with its title.

ronin4life5119d ago

Not gaming: e3. Most likely, he means Nintendo has to keep it as an interesting and surprising show; thus "saving" it.

Hicken5119d ago

Replace "gaming" with "E3" and the result is still the same.

With that in mind, he still treats it as if he knows what EVERYONE aside from Nintendo is going to show, and that ONLY Nintendo's new hardware(and related software) has a chance of being exciting. Halo 4 has no chance, nor does footage from any of Sony's recently announced games. None of the publishers' conferences will be worthwhile; only Nintendo can pique his interest.

mamotte5119d ago

Replace "gaming" with "E3" and you're playing only three days on a year. A lot of trailers and news come out every day of the year, same as rumors, you know.

Nutsack5119d ago

Nah, a current Gen powered device that'll mostly gets ports from systems that have a much higher number on installed base, from a company that doesn't have a clue how a well working online environment like psn or xbl is made?

browngamer415119d ago

Nice name it seems to suit you..on topic though maybe you haven't been listening to actual devs(not Anonymous devs)already stating numerous times that the Wii-U is next gen not current gen..oh well sometimes to troll you gotta mix up the facts a little..

yabhero5119d ago

So you work at Nintendo?
Is that how your know the specs of the consoles or the features of the online
Nintendo Network already confirmed to have
gamer communities 9 like Mario Kart
no friend codes just gamertags/ usernames
full online retail
DLC
I dunno sound like live
as for WiiU's power
THQ: “WiiU is just alot more powerful than current HD consoles it does 1080p very easy.”

Epic: “It will do things current HD consoles simply cant do its going to be a powerful box.”

Crytek: “WiiU devkits are very powerful, the specs are very good”

Vigil Games: “We had the game at the same level as high end pc version in a matter of days and a few lines of code got the game up and running on tablet in 5 mins.”

EA: "Wii U is not a transitional platform, it is a true next generation system."

I have this, all you have is weak excuse based on your hate of nintendo

CouldHaveYelledUiiW5119d ago

LOL at Yabhero, very well said (bubble-up voted)! I only add one thing to your comment... PERIOD!

Yep, Nintendo is going to have a fight trying to change the "hating" hearts and minds of the so-called "Core".

Bahimas5119d ago

Anyone saying Nintendo doesn't have a clue when it comes to online doesn't have a clue themselves. They've been experimenting (far too much, i know, but what can you do?) with any and all online structures since the famicom came out when they, you know, essentially pioneered the whole "consoles having online functionality" thing.

They've finally realized that the online environment is an important one, and from everything I've read about the network they have planned they're finally taking everything they know and making something out of it. I'm liking the features that have been detailed. In time, I honestly think it'll easily rival the other networks.

Nutsack5118d ago

So if they were experimenting for so long since famicom, why did they fack up so sadly with the Wii? They didn't have a clue.

What gives you a reason to think they are able to rival psn/xbl where even Sony needed years of improving and learning and still isn't on par with xbl on ps3 with no cross game chat and invites on a unified way?

I guess Nintendo fan boys are blind believers... Religion gives retarded followers I guess.

@ yabhero

All you have is devs that want to push a new console as it pushes more of their games they can easily port from 360 to Wii U. That'll get watered down ports when real next Gen starts in 2013 with Xbox 8 and PSOrbis as these will be more power full. Wii U is a current Gen, at best an in between Gen for about 1 year. Enjoy!

Bahimas5113d ago

The wii's online was a mistake, yes, i'm definitely not saying they're perfect, I hated it with a passion. They had said again and again, that at that time they didn't care for online at all. They just rigged up some system that was obviously not thought out and called it good enough. Now that they know they were wrong, they want to dive into it more and try to offer a better experience.

I currently like the psn, and Live i'm somewhat indifferent about, although I'd probably still use it if I hadn't had to sell my 360. I'm actually excited to see another system come up and compete with whatever it can offer, just to see how the others might react. For all anybody knows, a third network that offers some or most of the same features might push all three companies to come out with better features so users can gain better experiences. Are people that are against nintendo not wanting this competition, however little it is when it comes out, for some reason?

And I believe I said IN TIME. I didn't say it would rival the others immediately. I simply like the features they have actually revealed, despite how little the details are, and it is purely my opinion of liking what they're currently showing.

Reaper99375119d ago

Yes, I am extremely excited to see what Nintendo has to offer especially what games will launch alongside the WiiU. On the other hand the Nintendo showing is somewhat predictable, whereas on Microsoft and Sony's side the stars are the limits...PS4 or Xbox 720?

IMHO the reason I watch E3 religiously each year is because of Sony, year on year they have impressed me with what they have to offer, they like the gift that keeps on giving. So here is hopefully to another great showing by Sony come June 4th.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg39d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree39d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai39d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.
