Xbox owners that are Japanese RPG fans have been waiting a long time for this. We've been very lucky in that we've had a number of Japanese RPGs on the new console (of varying quality), but none have really aimed at giving us what Lost Odyssey does. With the previous Japanese RPG's we have seen they've mostly taken on a cutesy and simple style. Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata; while quite good games, they couldn't ever be considered completely serious by nature. Thankfully Mistwalker has seen this oversight and brought us something to fill that gap that has existed for way too long.
Mygen's Arran Walker talks a stroll through the first of four discs

How Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continues the legacy of Japanese RPGs that halted with Lost Odyssey on Xbox 360.
I bought an XB360 to play this game. I also played other gems like Blue Dragon, Gears of War, and ES: Oblivion but Lost Odyssey was the precursor and one of the best jRPGs ever.
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer would like to see the revival of Xbox's Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey Crimson Skies, and more.
What these games need are remasters and to modern platforms. They're all unfortunately stuck on the 360.
Then…remaster / remake them
🤷🏻♂️
After renewed interest you can get Mistwalker to do a sequel to Lost Odyssey

17 years later, it still stands out.
The game was indeed amazing. Great characters, gameplay and story!
But the dream sequences penned by Shigematsu were sublime.
I still remember many of these stories and I have integrated in the past in my D&D campaign many years ago.
Microsoft should have just kept pumping money into these guys. Same with a lot of the other studios... the blundered hard.
Lost Odysee deserved a franchise even though development wasn't smooth
It's not like it has had any competition since 2007. Would really like to own the short stories from it in book form.
The problem with most MS games on 360 was they didn’t make the games they paid for them and that makes you less money in the long run and isn’t something you can continue to do especially with declining sales of consoles. MS should have been starting and growing studios from the beginning but they went for paid games and it leaves them without the knowledge and culture of making games.
4 discs!?!
Man thats sh!te
So what? I've found that light-hearted games that don't take themselves too seriously are among the best.
Mario, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, God of War, Ratchet, Jak, Uncharted, Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo, the list goes on and on.
Being serious works, but it's not a primary ingredient for success.
Don't really think the disc thing is a problem. After you finish 1 you pop in the next one, and as each disc by the sound of it is over 10 hours thats the size of a normal game. It didn't bother me that Gran Turismo2 came on two discs ot final fantasy7 came on 3. Everyone remebers FF7 for being a great game not for the amount of discs it was on.
Yeah it would be nice if it was on one but it doesn't really matter with these sort of games. Its not like your swapping constatntly.
I must say im more looking forward to this than the new final fantasy, that seris has gone downhill a little in my opinion since its main creator left to form Mistwalker.
still have this game on my radar... looks awesome, and if it's traditional as they say it is, that's even better
