They can if they keep producing great games, and drop the price this summer or this spring by another 50-100 dollars.

Games rule the market leader which is why Wii is winning its cheap and it has a platoria of games being released for it.

Actually the video architecture in the 360 is a bit better but the PS3 is easily more powerful overall. The answer to the question in regard to game quality is no. Software sales, yes.

PS3 will catch up in quality titles and possibly hardware but It'll a bit more time for it to catch up in software sales.

They ruled last year because the games that came out for it were being hyped since 05 but this year, not enough BIG games that people actually care about. I know that they do have a lineup but it's nothing compared to Sony's.

360 will have a great year MSFT's winning 3rd party dev support and bargoning power due to the type of success in the market that drives the industry.

Going to be a great year MSFT will have many high production value games in all sorts of genre's and a price advantage and PS3 will finally have its AAA's and of course all consoles will have their secret unannounced titles.

We need to kill the theories and rumors about the 360 having nothing in 2008 due to the fact MSFT has not marketed and/or boasted future titles for all we know they stopped doing that after Too Human or figured out they sell more software keeping things under wraps.

We know theres plenty of games comming in 2008 from the devs and other sources so what if they're not as hyped or have not been known for 4 or 5 generations(in some cases 7 generations, AAA sequels), so what if MSFT doesn't wan't to talk about them. MSFT's new IP's would be killed by Sony's title's hype by the time they get released anyways by defualt and unfairly(this could factor in why they're being tight liped)

I read the article. Only a few points I agree with, but most of them I do not. Especially the last paragraph, there is no way to be certain that the Xbox 360 will still have the better multplatform games. And how would it have the better exclusives? That's subjective to the type of gamer but in the majority, Sony's 08 exclusives can't be measured up to.

Those are the big 5 for MS in '08, and all but Gears 2 are pretty much a lock for this year. There are also some sleeper multiplats that should sell better on the 360, like Fallout 3, UT3, Madden '09, etc. Throw in the sales from GTA4 (which will be = or > the PS3 sales), Splinter Cell: Conviction, and a possible surprise release (I'm still hoping for Project Offset), and the 360 will have an awesome year once again.
As exciting as last year was for gamers, this year should trump that. I'm really hoping the PS3 drops to $300 by this x-mas, so I can finally play a few of it's exclusives I've been keeping an eye on.

It's possible but it would almost certainly need a price cut to do so. I'm getting a 360 for Lost Odyssey and possibly Alan Wake(Hope it's a great game). They have some pretty solid titles coming out in 08. It's certain that the momentum is riding more with the PS3 than the 360.

that needs to change in 2008.starting at GDC.

putting the fact that i like the games and the system more on the sony side,this is their problem:

1)live anywhere doesn't work because microsoft doesn't have a portable like psp that can stream content from 360 to a portable device.even nintendo can stream small games if they wanted that connect WII to DS.the zune is just not good enough.

2)microsoft talked about gamers getting in and making content that can be shared.but it was sony that DELIVERED on that promise.where are the homebrew games that are backed by microsoft for xbox live and XNA?where is the modding?sony lets you change the system and share content.they need to make a bigger push.things like UT3 on ps3 are showing microsoft up.

3)if you're are going to link things like zune and vista,etc,give microsoft points in the box when you purchase said product.give the gamers a reason to put that money down.or,buy vista,get three live arcade games for free.something like that.

4)microsoft picked a format.it was the wrong one.but we know the reason was to slow sony up with bluray.now they need to make amends and get a bluray add on.because gamers who bought the add-on wasted their money.unless,all you're going to do is upscale dvds.but it defeats the purpose of having a high definition player doesn't it?

5)casuals can't see live arcade games if they don't know about it.put the games like uno,chess,monopoly in the box.and make a mouse like controller as a pack-in.make it easy to play like the wiimote.

Well I see sony having a great year this year. I mean a lot of people are holding out on PS3 till MGS4 comes out. I know people who are going to get a PS3 so they can play killzone 2 when it comes out. So to cut it short a lot of great sony exclusives this year that WILL sell a lot of PS3.

First thing is, both have 512mb ram. PS3'S O/S uses slightly more.

Its also true the 360 has more pixel pipelines, but the trouble is, they are simple pipelines, and are slow compared to rsx.

The Rsx is much quicker pixel wise.

If you want to talk geometry, then cell owns all, nothing touches it, not even quadcore. Already Proven.

So basically, you have two systems.

360 system has:

1)A $50 a year online service.(not alot but its still money)
2)Hardware that does break,Whether you like it or not, its fact.
3)Hardware addons, that are not worthit.
4)easy to program with, quicker games come to market. It has halo,Gears,bioshock. But how long for? Bioshock will be coming to ps3 in late 08/early 09.

PS3 Has:

1)Free psn network, although not as complete as xblive,soon to be home
2)A blu-ray player that basically rocks, and has been tested by many movie sites.And recieved aa ratings.
3)Has alot of options, soundwise,pictures,transfers,m ovies,addons,connect to psp. And much much more.
4)Although just getting started, the latest generation of multiplatform games, are looking and running well.
5)Many exclusives, not to be missed. GT5,MGS4,MOTORSTORM1,2,LBP,UNC HARTED1,2,3,RFOM,RROM,And many many more.

I might sound like a fanboy, but i've played bioshock,gears on a 360, and while i think gears was ahead of its time. I still think uncharted is better looking.

For me, if you want a future proof console, thats gonna last and improve time and time again, you have no option but to buy a PS3.

It's funny how sony fanboys are touting the ps3's power when last gen they were saying the same thing xbox fanboys were saying it's all about the games. There is no way someone will pick x360 over ps3 in 2008 after mgs4, ffxiii, gt5, kz2, r2, lbp, gow3 will be released. Even price difefrenece in 50-100$ won`t really help.

I think, x360 will drop price to 299$ before GTA4 released, ps3 in summer on in fall, also to 299$, maybe 349$. PS3 offer more, then x360, that`s why theoretically must cost more. BUT if it wil lcost on pair with x360, then there is nothing what will help x360.

tough for the x360 this year. There is no question that the x360 will have alot of great games this year that will appeal to the x360 fanbase but PS3 however will have a much better year relative to the x360. The reason i say this is because of the returning heavy hitters arriving this year for that PS3 that the bulk of last gen installbase (PS2 fans) want to play.MS is doing a great job software wise this gen but they need to market the x360 to all gamers if it wants to Succeed long term.What i mean by this is that MS need to keep pumping out games for hardcore AS WELL AS for the casuals in equal amount with equal attention. In this way it will keep the x360 core market happy as well as boarding the x360 market ensuring them success in the long run. Also another reason why i say this is because i believe that the Hardcore market is mostly accounted for this gen sofar as Hardcore are generally the early adopters so MS really needs to diversify the x360 game libary. X360 will still have a good year especially for the x360 fans but i highly doubt it can rule 2008 because of the PS3 game lineup this year.

I love my PS3 but if Sony doesnt start releasing some games already its gonna be over for them. They have had more than enough time so i dont see what the hell the problem is here. The Wii is even starting to kick out some great games, the future lineup of games alsolook interesting. The only thing that Sony has in there future lineup is Metal Gear and thats it? lol. I have 2 games for my PS3, Uncharted and Motorstorm and both are excellent. Uncharted is incredible, prolly one of the best games on all the systems. They need more games like that to win, or else its over. If you want a great lineup of games then i would have to go with the 360 even though i hate MS. At least Sony has the online thing for free which is a major plus. For fun and entertainment i would go with the Wii. Ive had mine since day one and have had no problems with it and its great for parties, everyone loves it and can just pick it up and start playing. Im still waiting on Sony to start kicking out some more games like Uncharted.

As far as gaming quality, yes. I think the 360 will rule '08 just as it did '07. Although this year, the PS3 will be up to par with the 360 as far as game releases.

As far as attach rate goes, I see the 360 once again beating the PS3. The most passionate gamers seem to have chosen the 360.

As far as hardware goes, I see the PS3 outselling the 360, at least for the first half of '08. If Gears of War 2 comes out in the fall, the 360 might have a chance to win the Christmas season.

If they can drop GOW2 this year it will be huge for the 360. We don't know about Killzone 2, we don't know if the install base is high enough for MGS4 to sell well, Haze is a question mark. Whether you like it or not Gears of War is a bonafide blockbuster. With only one game of a possible trilogy it has planted itself up there with Halo. This fact can't be denied whether you like it or not. I have both systems and am not a fanboy but the truth is the truth. Gears of War is the trump card.

Really 2008 will be the year of the ps3 but I do not think it will pass the 360, due to the fact that the 360 has to sell 0 consoles. But the fact is that 2008 is the set up and 2009 will be the spike, but all I know is, that I am gonna be broke lol.

Neither MS or Nintendo have really annouced many exclusives for this year unlike Sony who want to use most of their big hitters for this year. I can't wait for MGS4, Killzone 2, LBP and Resistance 2 on my PS3 this year but at the same time I want Banjo Kazooie 3, Halo Wars and Alan Wake. MS nor Nintendo will lay down and let Sony walk over them, that is just stupid to think of it and remember that MS annouced it plans to spend more money for advertising this year about $200 million more I think it was.

X-Box has already lost a lot of steam in Europe, it never even had a chance in Japan. A console cannot win the war with only one market (U.S.) '08 is Sony's year, X-Box's lead won't mean a thing come this time next year. Just like the HD-DVD and Vista, X-Box will go down hard. We're already seeing it.

the console that actually works or the one that breaks alot I think we know who has first party support then any game division so while you XBox 360 fans agree with each other with such none sense that your precious broken down system is going to have a great year which you guy's have obviously have not yet read about Resistance 2 what doe's microfony offer that the other company hasn't yet? and Gears of War 2 probably wont offer things anything new to the table except for graphics.

not with systems breaking down........ well my 360 just crapped out on me got little dots going across a black screen folks....... gonna cost me 99$ to repair..... this is B.S, dont know wether to send it un or just sell all my stuff i have for it.....halo 3 gears cod 4 guitar hero games/ guitars, rock band gear. funny thing though is that it f@cks up one month after warranty....aint that a b!tch

I personally think the only thing that could help the 360 outsell the ps3 for 08 would have to be a price drop to a price that will appeal to all people...say keeping all systems except the elite in the 200-300 range...with only the elite being in the 300+ range

Sony is known worldwide. There are countries who don't care or hear about all the propaganda that both sides throw around. All they know is that the ps2 was a really good system and now the ps3 is out. Its not the fact that this system does that anymore its if the Sony can drop price enough for average consumer to go and buy 1. Sony has a market of over 120 millions consumers I doubt that 110 million of them just disappeared.
