Star Wars: The Old Republic - Studio Update

SWTOR:

Hey folks, since you’re reading this you may likely have heard that we’ve done some restructuring here on the SWTOR team. Sadly, we are bidding farewell to some talented, passionate and exceptionally hard-working people who helped make SWTOR a reality. Impacting people’s lives this way is always very hard, but we’re ensuring the affected people are treated with dignity, fairness and respect.

Eh, generic response from the Docs. I truly respect those guys, but I don't believe they're making games now so much as juggling the games that other people are making, and it shows. It's like these two are the PR puppets that EA is using to respond to BioWare issues and complaints.

While I always respect a "from humble beginnings" story this guys had, their comments have begun to feel empty to me as well. I still have respect for these guys, but their names are starting to feel like..."placeholders" ; rather than "figureheads" for what Bioware's true goals are (if that makes any sense).

BioWare has had a few too many consecutive misses as of late. It's hard to blame it on exactly one thing, but they need to find out what that is and correct it quick. They've always had a lot of talent and to just lay a bunch off is only going to make things worse.

Oh, it's EA, IMHO. EA puts more pressure on the devs and reduces their development schedules. This leads them to trimming the fat.

Their games are still good, but when you compare them to the first in the series, you notice a huge change in direction and less focus on things that take more design/graphic time, such as exploration, increased itemization, and the like.

And, with ME3, I believe multi-player is their answer to extending replayability versus single-player DLC, which I believe we will only see two of, if we're lucky.

Glad I stopped playing when I did. Doesn't seem like it will last too much longer.

steve30x5127d ago

Unless it goes free to play it wont last much longer. I played SWTOR for a few hours and got bored of it

solar5127d ago

I left for Tera. It's far more fun then STWOR is.

Kamikaze1355127d ago

Same here. Haven't regret it at all. TERA has a fair amount of end-game content with more coming at the end of this month (less than two weeks). I hit max level and am excited to level another character before even touching the end-game content.

I loved this game and have played since launch but don't let this article fool you, this game is a step above life support. While they are still technically updating the game, the updates are few and far between and there is a significant lack of quality control, so many little bugs that have been present for years.

TheColbertinator1164d ago

The updates felt flimsy to me also. Stopped playing in 2021.

Andrew3361164d ago

This game got a huge update last year didn't it with more content?

PapaBop1164d ago

They promoted it as an expansion yet offered like 3-4 hours of content. The game is amazing and easily one of the best Star Wars games ever made but content drops are so few and far between.
