After the much publicized delay due to heightened risk of seizures, WipEout is finally upon us. So how does it stack up to PSN titles and retail titles?
So 25 September dropped alot of downloads on the Playstation Network, from the normal Rock Band DLC and demos, 3 big titles became available. Mega Man 9 is bringing back the 8-bit look, Burnout is taking up 3.2 gigs of awesomeness on your PS3. And then there is Wipeout. So we heard that it can give you seizures, but for years we've read in our owners manuals that we can have seizures from playing games. Well after testing Team Liverpool pushed the limits to more than just a precaution to a warning, and after some changes, we have a lower risk version upon us now.
So one of the hypes of Wipeout is full 1080p running at a super smooth 60 frames per second. From the moment the menu starts up you can see the uniqueness known of the Wipeout name. But so many times a good menu as been the last bit of good in a game. Definitely not the case with Wipeout. From the first countdown till the time you controller dies, you will be mesmorized by the enjoyment this game brings. You have your standard race with weapons to Zones. The game also offers a great selection of difficulties to keep the challenge growing, which you will have to heighten to get all the trophies. One problem the series has known for having is the pilot assist, or lack there of. Well this time around you have a good pilot assist, but not perfect. On narrow paths you can be bounced from wall to wall, which is more of a frustration than a problem. Other than that the assist does its job. The traditional race is just what you would expect, a fast pace race with various weapons running through very futuristic tracks. The lights of the track will flash to the beat of the electro music which keeps you entrenched in the game more than you think. Zones brings the most unique look to the game with the flat track look that changes as you progress through the zones. It removes alot of the detail from the track but it doesn't at all take away from the experience.
So getting down to whats good and whats bad. The graphics don't push any boundaries, as in they are the most interesting things but the overall experience of environments and sound is the most memorizing of recent games. You will often times find yourself deeply placed in this gem. The game claims to support custom soundtracks, yet when I selected my custom music, none of my tracks could be recognized. While I would like to listen to my music while playing the game, the games soundtrack matches the feel of the game. So while it's a downside, it's not detrimental. The controls are very simple to learn and grasp, but you better know what you're doing when you jump in to online matches. Even this short after launch people are ready to make you earn a victory. The online matches were very smooth, with no noticeable lag issues. There are plenty of unlocks also, from tracks to vehicles (and new skins for them). Overall the game is very solid, very few flaws bring the game down. Wipeout is a great change for those who have been stuck in the shooters and action genre for too long. And for only 20 dollars, Wipeout is easily considered a steal. Even if you do have to worry slightly about seizures (which I have yet to experience). This game is definitely a worthy PSN title, that could easily hold its own with a retail version.

Will we ever see more of Sony’s futuristic racing franchise?
DSOGaming writes: "It appears that the best Playstation 3 emulator that is currently under development, RPCS3, received a new update recently. kd-11 has implemented new Surface Cache fixes to RPCS3 that reportedly improve the appearance of car reflections in Gran Turismo 6, and fix various graphics glitches in other games."
If someone out there in internet land could make a decent PS3 emulator imagine what Sony could actually do if they put the time and effort in to make this happen for their next console?
It's definitely not impossible as we can see here. It should definitely be done since BC seems to be very important to Sony this next gen. Imagine PS+ free game offerings from Sony that could include the whole catalog from the PS console family..fantastic.
Racing games should be some of the easiest to emulate and they're still not hitting 60fps with it, to say nothing of image flickering and occasional sound issues.
Still gonna be a bit yet before they have it fully up and running, it seems, and even then it may only work for part of the library. :/
Is it possible to have PS3 emulation on PS5?yes depending on what kind of power it really has.
An i7 9700k is no slouch and the PS4 already has a God of War 3 running much better with less
power required because they converted CBE to X86 which is not something you want to be doing in the long run.
What power would be required to play these games emulated at said PS4 version?.
It's not an easy situation Sony themselves created and ultimately I believe they are happy this way because they
want you to use PSNow,that service is why you will not even get it. (let's not forget that it was a huge investment)

Alongside the death of the Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 servers, Sony will be shutting down the online services of three WipEout Games in 2018 for PS3 and Vita.
How's this even possible? I thought Sony didn't have dedicated servers according to a certain crowd?
Damn even the Vita gets hit?
Reminds me of the 6th console gen when tons of servers for awesome games got shut down anywhere from 2 to 4 years after they initially launched.
Better enjoy whatever games' online components you can while you can before they get wiped out of existence.
wish they'd rerelease White Knight Chronicles 2 on PS4 so I can play online again. That game was amazing
Wait! Sony exclusive games had dedicated servers?
Killzone 2 and 3 and now WipEout!
We know Resistance 1-3 had dedicated servers as well as GT 5-6 and MAG and Uncharted 2 and 3 and ao on and so forth.
As far as I know non-dedicated servers cannot be shutdown on Sony platforms until Sony stops hosting the game services on the platform. So when Sony stops supporting matchmaking via PSN on PS3 then those games without dedicated servers will be shut down... I did my research UKRsoldja
It doesn't recognize your mp3's? Weird, it recognized all of mine.
Are you sure your music files are Mp3 not AAC or ATRAC? I believe that on default they are set to AAC when you import, if so go into music settings and switch it to Mp3. I have 100+ song soundtrack for it and works great.
Fantastic review. Pleasure to read.
Playing Wipeout HD makes me regret never playing it on the PSone or psp. I see now what I had been missing out on! Great game with awesome controls and visuals. Nice review.
I have all the wipeout soundtracks and HD plays it no problem. They need to remove the pilot assist, its annoying
