So recently I've been enjoying my gamefly account. Lets me play many more games with spending less money with no risk of possibly buying or spending too much time with a horrible game. I remember seeing some trailers of Singularity awhile back so I decided to add it to my list...
As soon as I start the game, it shows you on a helicopter with a buddy across from you as you fly across the ocean. Immediately I got hit with deja vu (COD4 anyone?). My expectations dropped faster than a Korean at a massage parlor.
A giant statue, a beam of light, and a helicopter crash later my interest slighty rose. While the graphics weren't anything spectacular they seem to immerse you in this island pretty well. And while I thought it was going to be just a run 'n gun game based off video reviews and screen shots it was almost the opposite.
The atmosphere is pretty creepy and eerie. I find myself in a house, with a ball dropping down from the stairs as faint voices of children laugh. Let's say I quickly turned the lights on (This was 2AM) and went from run 'n gun mode to survival mode pretty fast.
The mutated monsters models weren't anything new or impressive, but their behavior and powers were. Whether it be the Zeks that phase in and out of different time periods, rendering them invisible then reappearing right in front of you with an explosive barrel ready to be slapped against your face or the Reverts that our blind and aimlessly stagger through the sewers that puke on you.
The section with the Reverts were one of the best levels I can remember in a game, it was simply awesome. You could cut the tension on that level with a toddlers plastic knife. The story is pretty good here too. While it's surely not going to win any awards, it at least makes sense in a sci-fi world and although it may have plot holes it's not enough to ruin it.
If Resistance, COD, and Half-life 2 had a baby, this would be it. The guns are fun to use, the TMD (or Time Manipulation Device) is also fun to play around with while not being forced and over-used.
To top it off, there's a nice twist at the end and you're left with a decision. For the first time in game, I was able to shoot and kill someone that I wasn't expecting to! For some reason I have an OCD with games, where I'll always try to shoot friendlies and such with no luck, whether the gun is aimed down or you simply get a "Watch out! I'm on your side!", this game simply surprised me at the end and I said (as GameSpot says) "Oh snap!".
Don't miss this game, it may not be worth a retail buy but it's definitely worth buying used or a rent. Hell, if I were to buy it full price, I would of felt content about it.
Last but not least, the multiplayer. Playing as humans, your run of the mill online shooter here. Playing as monsters, tons of fun and something new and fresh. Playing as Reverts and puking on enemies killing them while puking on allies and healing them is a sense of satisfaction I haven't had from an online shooter in a long time.
The phase tik is even better, scaling walls upside down to launch onto a humans head to take over there body was a nice feeling. Just wish there was more people playing, it may take a few tries to find a game.

Backward compatibility works for many games on newer consoles, but titles such as The Simpsons: Hit and Run have been left out.

As the world reels from the shockwaves of the seismic news that Microsoft is acquiring the proverbial swamp of the video-game landscape, Activision Blizzard King, it only seems natural that our minds should now shift towards what the fallout will be for presumably years if not decades to come.
Another Prototype would be awesome.
As for Singularity, I don't necessarily need a sequel, I just want to see Raven be able to flex their creative muscle again; not just be relegated to assisting with CoD. A lot of the old guard is still with the company.
That's part of what I'm hoping to see come from this acquisition. Revive teams like Vicarious Visions and Ravem to actually allow them to work on their own new projects again.
I'd like to see Activision get the Transformers license again and continue the War and Fall of Cybertron games. the movie games were crap and the game that combined both movie and Fall and War of Cybertron sucked a new Prototype would also be good as well.
Re-imagining of River Raid and the original adventurer Pitfall. Oh Zork is also a great game.

You may remember Singularity as the game Activision wanted to forget. Developed by Raven Software - formerly the creators of Heretic and Soldier of Fortune.
It was a truly bizarre sequences of events, almost as if Activision wanted the game to do badly. The tragic irony is that Singularity is a more interesting singleplayer FPS than every Call of Duty Activision has released since Modern Warfare, combining a high-concept, time-hopping story with oodles of clever mechanics, and a weapon-roster to rival Bulletstorm and Titanfall 2. | Rick Lane
This game was fantastic and it was the only Activision published game last gen I really enjoyed.
I loved the TMD gameplay as it reminded me of the Gravity Gun in Half Life, if they did a sequel they could have really added onto the game. I loved how despite being scripted the time era would change and you'd suddenly be in the past, if they did a sequel they could have tried to do these non scripted so they could happen at any time while you were walking around.
This game received little to no love. I enjoyed it and recommend if tour looking for a solid fps for probably dirt cheap that dared to be different by tying together a lot of ideas.
One of my favorite first person shooters. I wish Activision would finally allow them to make the sequel we've all been waiting for!
loved this game. rented it on a whim at blockbuster, and had way too much with it. A pleasant, self-contained title, no massive franchise, just a nice little story and interesting gameplay. Definitely a hidden gem from lest gen.
Hell yeah! Singularity! Love that game. Bought it twice. I have it for 360 and PS3. If you still have it and want to play MP my PSN ID is MatthewMk2, everybody who wants to play MP add me.
Really liked Singularity.
I bought it 4 PC, then stupidly deleted my save game file.
I wanna get back into it, but I'm thinking of renting it for the PS3 so i can play online w/ my PSN buddies.
This was a great game. I really like old school FPS and I've no idea where the comparisons of Bioshock comes from, the game plays NOTHING, and I really mean, NOTHING like Bioshock. In a matter of a fact, it has more in common with Doom3, Quake4 and Prey.
It's a real shame this game wasn't noticed, because I think personally it was one of the best new IPs of 2010 and the game mechanics were solid all the way through.
I guess I ruined my experience slogging through it on the hardest difficulty for my first go-around (for achievement purposes)...because I really hated that game.
I'm around half way through the game and it's getting better and better. Although I dislike the fact that the Russians are the "bad" guys once again...but whatever.
Why did American forces think they had any right to even go the island in the first place? Ooooh I remember, they like to police the world.
