SingStar is the first in the series to appear on the Playstation 3. If you have played any of the previous SingStar games, you already know what you are getting yourself into. You can buy the game alone if you have mics already for $39.99 or buy the $59.99 version which comes with two mics. On a sidenote, the mics aren't wireless.
SingStar on PS3 is pretty much the same as every other SingStar game before it. You sing the lyrics that come up on your TV of your favorite music bands and artists. To earn points you simply need to sing well. The game isn't 100% accurate meaning you might be singing the lyrics correctly, but you might not get all the points you think you should of gotten and most of the time it's due to latency. The game does game latency and calibration options, but even then it might be a little screwy. The point of the game is to hit the correct pitch at the correct time and for the correct duration. As you sing, you'll see your voice drawn on-screen. You must try sing so that your voice matches the grey pitch bars on-screen as closely as possible. With each successful note you will score points and at the end of the song you'll be given a total score and a ranking.
The game itself is pretty bare bones. It contains 30 songs (which isn't alot) from artists and bands such as The Killers, U2, Pussycat Dolls, Coldplay, Ne-Yo, Outkast and much more. There are five modes. Solo, Battle, Duet, Pass the Mic, and Practice. Solo, you sing by yourself. Battle, you compete head-to-head against a friend. Duet, you sing with a partner for a joint score. Pass the Mic, a series of rounds where two teams are presented with different singing challenges. Practice is self-explanatory. The game doesn't give you a lot to do. The game modes are pretty much play a song, get a hi-score, and that's it. The difficulties range from your standard easy, medium, and hard. The easier the difficulty, the more room for error the game gives you. At the end of song you can hear an audio playback of your sing and save it if you wish to do so. You can also record videos of yourself singing if you have the Playstation Eye. The games' user interface is very sharp and clean. You are presented with the music video of the song you select when you are playing. You can also change the wallpaper of the games menu if you choose to.
SingStar for PS3 boasts some very excellent online features. SingStore is a new feature to the SingStar series, in which you can download songs that are available for $1.49. The best thing about Singstar for PS3 is it's community. You can hop online and create a profile, add your picture, interact with other SingStar players, upload audio and video for the community to rate and more. Though all this sounds good, it's too bad you can't play against people online. The lag would of probably have been the excuse but they should of definitely have done what the guys at Harmonix are doing with Rock Band since Rock Band does have sing and has online versus modes.
In conclusion, the debut of SingStar on the Playstation 3 is a welcomed addition to the long-running series of SingStar games and a good start on something for Sony to build on upon for future releases.

This may come as a bit of a shock to Americans, since it never really took hold in the US, but Singstar was one of the most important series ever released on a Sony console. And in January 2020, after 15 years of PlayStation karaoke, it’s finally going to be shuffled off the stage.
This game could live on as a VR game. Karaoke as different created characters or franchise characters from other games. Sing as Kratos or Nathan Drake or Parappa the Rapper, etc and post to social media if you're into that internet thing. Would be funny. And interesting if you had individuals who could really sing. Alloy becomes a virtual singing idol.
Sounds crazy but it's creative for VR. And you could use Dreams to create your backgrounds and music videos. I don't really sing but don't think they should give up on Singstar.
So if you invested potentially hundreds of dollars in the game with DLC songs, will all of it continue to work or are you just SOL now?
I loved SingStar but it hasn't been supported most of this gen. It had a half-hearted revival with a couple of discs but very little of the PS3 library transitioned across. I will probably keep my PS3 just for SingStar when PS5 comes out.
SingStar was huge in the US. Where did the idea that it wasn't popular in the US come from? It wasn't a hardcore game, so the hardcore gaming community never really noticed it much, but the game was a huge money maker for Sony.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a singing superstar in your very own living room, you might want to consider downloading SingStar on your PlayStation console today!
