Short but addictive

Own the Game is developed by PikPok and is a football flick game. What you have to do is to flick the ball to the midfielder while he does darting runs through the opposition team. It sounds simple and it really is that simple. There is a score based system in the game (25, 50 100). 100 is right at the feet and it goes down the further away it is until you get nothing and try again. There is even a target score and timer you must achieve to pass the level that adds to the pressure and difficulty. There are only twelve levels with 4 levels on each difficulty (3 difficulty levels in total) to complete which is a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping for more as the game doesn't last very long. I wasn't great at the game and I managed to complete it in 1-2 hours of off and on playing. It does get much more difficult as the game progresses so if you fly through the early levels it is a bit of a shock when you get to the last levels. What makes this game harder is when you hit a defender you lose 2 seconds but for some reason he disappears when you try a gain (not sure if this is a gameplay thing or a bug). It is just a shame there is no training zone as such where you can practice curving and passing.

Graphically it is ok. There really isn't much to it. It is basically a cut out moving in one direction for you to pass too. There is really only one animated character and that is the goalie. The stadiums are the same as the players on the pitch and with little animation. The ball, however, is quite good quality. It glides pretty naturally

The ability to curve needs a few tweaks. I found it hard to curve the ball at the right angle with at times it was just down to luck. It is also very easy to over power the shot which does become problematic later on in the game. The sound is ok but nothing really special. The quality is good but it is clear that there is no variety. The menu music is the same and generic but this doesn't matter to much on an Iphone game. You can get the same experience with the sound off.

Another problem with the game is it is painfully obvious it is advertising the Adidas Adipower predator boot. There is even a section where you can look and buy the boots. It even has all the information about the boot

From this it seems that this is a bad game but it isn't really. I still find myself going back to it having a go trying to increase my score. The openfeint and Apple's own leader board and achievements is a nice touch and a great way to compete with others for the better score. I found it quite hard which kept me going back for more. It also doesn't drain too much battery which is also a big bonus when playing on your phone. All in all it is free and to be honest it is fun and is great to play in your spare time. It is no Angry birds but it is defiantly a high quality free game. I recommend checking it out

Well, it looks like rugger isn't the only sport arousing PikPok's interest at the moment, because it's just released another athletic challenger for iPhone and iPad - this time with a football theme.
