So the question you're wondering, is it worth 8 bucks? In short, yes. If you don't at least give the trial a run, then you're missing out on how Gameloft puts it "Bringing the fun back to MP shooters", because somehow this low-budget game does.
The key to this? Simple gameplay, fun gunplay, and excellent map design. Which is what I'm having fun with most of all, the level design, something I feel COD:BO and recent FPS's have got all wrong lately.
It's not without it's flaws though, but much less flaws expected for such a low budget game especially compared to the big budget big brothers ala COD, MOH, etc.
First of all, I had no trouble finding games and/or other players. And if you do, there's bots to fill the role until other players join. And this is such an awesome feature, because if you die and there's a bot still alive you can take control over the bot and get right back in the action. As I write this, there are over 6,000 people who at least played one match.
The game modes mixed in with the great maps have been tons of fun, especially escort. Sprinting up a fire escape onto a roof where you can look down through glass inside a building picking people off was a cool feeling. Especially when I was goofing off and standing on said glass and had an enemy shoot the glass out then watch as I fall to a humorous death.
The graphics aren't too shabby here either. I'm not a technical guru and I'm not sure if it's the resolution or what, but it looks better than COD:BO, the colors and textures just seem to be brighter and sharper. Up close the textures kind of go kapoot but hey, it's an eight dollar game.
The default sensitivity was a little off (I played with DS3), it is to date, the first game I had to adjust the sensitivity to feel more natural, the default setting was way too low. Seemed like it took a day to turn around. Move players really seem to be at an advantage with this game, it's almost like DS vs a mouse with the skilled Move players.
My biggest complaint of the game was the loadout set up, you basically have 5-7 seconds to choose a loadout and must do this each time you respawn or start another game. It's tedious if you like to keep things the same. As in, you must choose a main weapon (If any), secondary (pistol), grenades, tactical grenades, armor, etc, EACH and EVERYTIME you die or start a game.
For game modes where you don't respawn until next round this was somewhat acceptable, but in the more fast paced TDM, like I said...very tedious. Which brings me to the next issue, the money system. I'm also not a fan of this because if you want to use the AK47 you have to first save up money, then once you put it on your loadout and lets say you die without getting any kills. You must save up again to use it again.
So you may save up money for a particular gun but if you die without earning the money to re-purchase the gun again you could simply be purchasing it just to look at it until you can save up the money again. Now, your basic primary gun, which is the MP5, also costs money.
So it's going to be difficult for most average players with 1.0 k/d ratios to be using anything other than the MP5 or UMP. So it's already common for most players to be running around with no primary weapon and just a pistol trying to save money for a better gun while knowing that they may only get to use it once.
In another sense, the better guns are practically killstreaks. Some people may like this set up, I personally didn't. If you're an FPS fan waiting for the more AAA games like KZ3 and need a game to hold you off, you owe it to yourself (And to your wallet) to buy this game and give it try. At the very least try the free-trial!
Which brings me into the final thoughts here, whatever you earn in the free-trial, if you decide to purchase the game, rolls over! Last gripe: No game lobbies except when you initially join a game. So after a game, it automatically starts loading the next game. This means no bathroom or drink breaks. Also means, if you want to leave after finishing a game, you're going to have to wait until the next game starts. And that leaves your team down a human teammate...which can be a BIG disadvantage.
Oh and before I forget, the "chirp" in the trailer did NOT make it into the final product =*( and I heard no overly-corny phrases from players, thank god.

Mario writes "Last year Gameloft decided they wanted a piece of the cake and joined the wave of companies releasing FPS games. They did a little game called Modern Combat: Domination, or as i like to call it, the poor man Modern Warfare."
Modern Combat Domination certainly is fun for a couple of hours, however it certainly IS NOT a poor mans Call of Duty, the game is clearly based on Counter Strike, hence why it does not have a campaign mode, and uses money to buy weapons each respawn. I am disgusted by the fact that everyone uses Modern Warfare as an argument for Modern Combat, as if they only see the whats on the surface instead of the gameplay mechanics that drive the game. Not a single mention of Counter Strike in that review, instead it's just MW and BF over and over, get your facts straight and do some research. And what's with the crappy grammar and typos? I is spelled with a capital i, and the host HAS not HAVE!

TheParanoidGamer: "Today, Gameloft have sent out PSN messages to those who have downloaded Modern Combat: Domination Demo. For a limited time only you can purchase the game for just $2.99. That’s a $5 saving!!"
I got that message in my XMB earlier. Cool deal I guess. For people who want to play the game.
I got the message too. Still not sure if it's worth it. I figure if they are trying to sell it for that price, it's only a matter of time before it's free with PS+.
hehe for some reason i bought this when it first came out for $6. the game is good but dont think ive played it in like 5 months.

Modern Combat: Domination has a real generic name and it can be overlooked just by it’s close word association to Modern Warfare, but trust me that it is no MW, neither in a good or bad way. It is developed by Gameloft, they have been recognized for making games on the iPhone, Android and other smart phones and now they make their big transition to the PS3 console as a downloadable title. For a first attempt on the console I must say that I was impressed by the quality compared to the very lucrative price.
I dont think the game supports high enough sensitivity even at the highest and the loading times are very long but it is a $8 game.
The only problem is the game lobbies get full quickly. Great game for the price
Wow! I got the trial and it is VERY fun! Buying it soon!
I actually find the money system refreshing and original, even if it is a tad annoying. I would've liked more trophies though.
Seems time is really cheap to a lot of people on this website. I don't care if a game is only 8$--if it's trash, it's still not worth my TIME, no matter how little money I paid for it.
Hell, if you people are really that strapped for a bargain multiplayer game, check out MAG. You can download it off the Store for 30$ now (or probably find a physical copy for less) and I GUARANTEE it'll be worth your money 10x over. I myself poured more than 400 hours into that game--it's easily one of the best mp FPSs and without a doubt the most underrated game this gen.
