Infamous is a comic book readers gaming dream (as well as Batman Arkham Asylum). Infamous is an open world game that sets Cole MacGrath a messenger in the center of a huge explosion that wipes out most of Empire City. He wakes up in a hospital to discover that after the explosion he has gain power over electricity. Later you and your good buddy and unofficial sidekick Zeke arrive at a drop off spot where a helicopter is dropping food and supplies for the city. Here you have your first encounter with the enemy, a gang called the reapers who go in guns a blazing in order to get the supplies for themselves. You use your electrical powers to kill them, and the Karma system then kick in. The Karma system makes you choose between doing the right and the wrong thing, and depending on you choice Cole will learn different powers, and have an overall effect on his character model and the entire city (more on that later). So after the attack a broadcast spreads around the city, pinning the explosion on you, and the city pretty much hates you. So later a woman from the FBI known as Moya contacts you and wants you to find her husband named John who is lost in the city somewhere, and so your journey begins.
Infamous is not the most beautiful game, but for an open world game it looks very good. You'll find some weak texture around, and a bit of slow down every now and then, but nothing to ruin the look of the game. However, the game has some glitches that should have been patched a long time ago. The saving grace for the graphics in Infamous is the size of the city, and how lived in it is. There are people on the streets at all times, and they react to Cole's presence (in a positive way or negative way depending on whether you've been good or evil), as well as attack from the Reapers and later enemies. This kind of believability make the graphics second hand by this sense of realism.
The music and sound effect are great. Lightning and electricity crackle in a realistic manner. The voice work is good as well, except for minor characters who ask you to perform missions.
You go through the city restoring power to the districts and each time you do you gain a new powers. Never has the power of electricity been uses in video games as it has in Infamous. Sucker Punch (the developer) have really put their imaginations to use in giving the player a broad spectrum of powers and abilities to use. The game plays more like a shooter than an action game, by how you control the lightning so shooter fans can pick the title up and be at home as well as gamers who enjoy hack and slash action titles. The climbing mechanic in Infamous is very unique. It's simple and never becomes a hassle to the gamer and Cole, as Cole is able to climb huge building in a couple of seconds. Occasionally when climbing a building you'll get stuck as the game wants to make you latch on to the nearest object which can be annoying when you're trying to escape enemy fire. As I said earlier you get various powers such as shooting lightning bolts, force fields, levitation, lightning grenades, and even calling down a lightning storm to destroy everything.
Infamous is a blast from beginning to end. Being set in an open world means developers have to find things for gamers to do to keep them immersed and interested, and Infamous does that with different missions which are repetitive, but never last too long to be a problem. Moving from one island of Empire city to another is a huge contrast for the environments. The islands look the same since their dirty and crime infested, but they look different as well (you just have to see it), and each island is infected with a different type gang, and it nice to sit back and see the two feuding gangs battle it out amongst one another, these kind of moments are what make this game great. Infamous is full of potential, and a sequel should definitely be in the makes. Infamous is one of the best PS3 exclusives, and another nice addition the the PlayStation's library of games.

Sucker Punch rejuvenated the superhero genre with Infamous, a series that focused on the pure fun of wielding destructive powers.
Atleast release a remaster trilogy or something to gage interest. I'd buy it. With that said I'm pretty over superheroes at this point. Infamous is still dope as fk though so it'd be a buy
I agree but games take 4-6 years to make so who knows when they would do it? After Ghost of Tsushima2? They could have something else in the world as well in early production who knows.
It's a shame Sucker Punch finally figured out a good open world formula only while making Ghost of Tsushima. Infamous 1 and 2 were great for their time, but Second son felt too much like a checklist in It's design. I love the hell out of all 3 games (2 and 3 are just so damn good, while 1 shows it's age and the ps3 struggles), but I would love to see how they would do another infamous with all they have learned. Wouldn't hurt to release a remastered collection either.
This series, days gone, will continue to get ignored by sony, luckily we still have the horizon series, sly cooper not getting pushed anymore, speaking of that I'm bout to get on my ps2 and play some sly 2 anyways lol, but seriously I never woulda thought back then sony would ever cold shoulder most of their franchises I'm actually surprised they're still letting ratchet&clank be around

The inFamous games are an important part of PlayStation history, but the series is in limbo and playing older entries isn't exactly easy.
Would like remasters of 1 and 2. I enjoyed them much more than Second Son.
1 & 2 had more of an emphasis on climbing and the traversal requires a bit more effort in a good way. It was rewarding. Second Son made climbing mostly obsolete so they put little effort into it. The traversal was just great in inFamous 1 & 2. There's a reason Sunset Overdrive copied and improved upon the induction grind mechanic.
Reminds me of how I felt about the decline of parkour and the well designed tombs (basically Prince Of Persia levels) that we saw in the Assassin's Creed games.
The story and atmosphere were also much better in 1 & 2.
Electricity is just a brilliant superpower for an open world city. It perfectly fits just like webslinging does in New York and it has many applications.
Wouldn't the onus be on the consumers? If they bought the Infamous games, then we'd have more games from that series.
I would love to see a new game but a feel that would get a response similar to Saints Row.
Loved all 3 of them. I couldn't get on with the vampire spin off though. Wish they didn't move away from cole but I didn't mind the other character.
Loved 1 and 2 , would definitely love a new INFAMOUS single player campaign.

Nixxes' Remaster focus could set the stage to resurrect many obscure titles like the karma-centered, superpower-fueled sandbox of Infamous.
Infamous remaster? How about an Infamous re-Boot! This is one game that doesn't need a remaster, it needs either a proper equal of a reboot of the original. And since Sony is currently in development with Marvel, i can totally see them having guest marvel characters to appear in Cole's world.
I'd like a Killzone 2 Remaster.
Keep the visuals style as is ... just improve the LoD and the resolution
There is a lot of the PS3 era that I would love to see ported/remastered. But, unfortunately, they are probably not commercially viable and I have no idea who owns the rights currently. Stuff like Sire: Blood Curse, White Knight Chronicles, Tokyo Jungle, Folklore, etc.
Infamous on the other hand was never a series that I found good or interesting. Especially when compared with other contemporaries like Prototype. But, given how bare the subgenre is right now, I would dig a remaster.
Infamous, Resistance, and killzine are so ripe for a remaster, I wish Sony would make it happen.
Good review, although I'd argue about the graphics as I think they're very impressive. I also usually hate slowdown in games and find it off-putting but I can honestly say it doesn't detract from the gameplay at all, and I barely notice it now. It's all subjective though.
But yeah, well written and honest review.
