The main reason why I brought a PS3 was for Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XIII delivers a great RPG experience. Its does have a few differences from the previous Final Fantasies which will make you wonder is this game for you. First the battle system is great, it is the traditional ATB battle system with a much faster pace. It will probably take a while to get use to it but the first few hours of the game will help you adjust to it fast and you would certainly get the hang of it.
The graphics are simply amazing, every single part of the game looks fabulous including the CG and the in game cutscences(sometimes they look almost identical). Now there are a few graphical differences between the PS3 and the 360 version. I have the PS3 version and everything about the PS3 version graphically is perfect since it was the main version of the game. As for the 360 version, which was a port, my friend has it for the 360 and I must say it still looks good and almost very similar but you can still notice the graphical colors are lil blur and faded out. In general, if you only have a 360 then it is still worth getting but if you have both consoles or just the PS3, I highly recommend the PS3 version.
The only main flaw of this game was the linearity and there are no towns. It is basically going from point A to point B and the only way to get buy items is through the save point. There will be a part where the game opens up and you can explore. This part of the game I love because they are plenty of side missions and the area is very huge to point that you will need a chocobo to get farther.
Overall don't let the linearity prevent you from getting this game. It definitely has the true Final Fantasy and RPG experience. Oh and by the way the music and characters in this game is great!!!!!

Kazuyuki Shindo, who worked on games including Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy XIII, and SaGa: Emerald Beyond, has left Square Enix.

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."
FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.
I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.
I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.
i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.
i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.
but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.
but i like 13-2 more :)
i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy
XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!
I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.
Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5
I'm so in love with game and as linear as it is and even without towns its such a 10 IMO. But yes sir, your review is spot on dude!
i love FF13 and agree with u but u didnt cover the story part in ur review. The only bad thing about the game for me is the story which is confusing and hard to follow. I reckon they should explain the concepts of the story for u in cutscenes instead of having to look at the dialogue in the menu to find out what is going on. imo its a 9.4
I loved the game. However, I believe that it's more of a 9.4-9.6 as apposed to a 9.8 (which is definitely too close to perfect).
Hi, I enjoyed Final Fantasy saga from 4 to 13 as well as many other RPG and I cannot agree with the score here.
The game has an amazing graphic but 10 if the best you can see and right now Gods of War 3 has better graphics and the fact that it is not an RPG is irrelevant. Sounds is technically excellent but I have to compare to Heavy Rain or Dragon Age which are in my opinion the most "fittable" sound in a game. Gameplay is smooth and I agree with the score and fun factory is totally personal so I think is not a matter of discussion.
Here we come to the point. I have to disagree the most: Story.
I think this is by a length the worst story in FF saga because in the end is very similar to the end of FF12 and I would say it has no thrill.
Since this IS a RPG and the story of an RPG defines the difference between mediocre, good or great i would say that FF13 is simply mediocre. Is like seeing a stunningly beautiful girl with no brain and no emotions; you can enjoy watching her but playing with her quickly becomes boring.
