So with a week of play under our belts we feel as though we are ready to give you our take on Bungie’s sci fi first person shooter.
There are several aspects to Destiny, and first we will tackle the story. I have read what the internet says about the length of the game and in that aspect I somewhat agree. Yes the story was a bit shorter than what I expected especially due to the fact that this was probably the biggest release of the year, and I was looking forward to a longer campaign. However the ending did give way for expansions in the future so I was satisfied with the length overall. The story itself was not to bad however there seemed to be no investment in any of the characters.
You start off by being brought back to life by a ghost and that is it. There is no extensive background information, which to me is not to bad of an idea and maybe in future expansions they can tell that story. You then go to the Tower which essentially is the central hub of your explorations. You meet several characters to interact with but the game does not tell you who these people are. So when I am running around doing missions and what not I feel no connection with the other people in the tower that are there with the same overall goal as me. It is probably not a big deal but it helps when you receive a mission from your buddy so you feel some emotional bond while you are mindlessly killing aliens. Overall the story is enjoyable and fitting, however there could have been more.
Now on to the gameplay. One word. Fantastic! The game plays very smooth and fluid. The game feels a little like a crossover between Halo and Call of Duty. The movement and jumping resembles Halo and the gunplay leans towards the Call of Duty feel. However they are put together flawlessly and I had a blast shooting down enemies (pun definitely intended). While you are exploring you have access to a sparrow, which is a high powered, hovering Destiny motorcycle. This thing is fun to ride! My favorite part is finding inclined pieces of rock so I can ramp off them and score some sick hang time! But really the Sparrows serve as a good way to get around the different planets.
The enemy AI are not too shabby. For the most part they are not too creative but they will show signs of some kind of battle tactics. They will use cover and sometimes they will work their way around to shoot you. The different types of enemies have their way of fighting but I will let you found that out.
Now lets tackle the PvP. I love the multiplayer so far. There are complaints about a lack of game modes and custom parties and lobbies, but I love it. It feels very bare bones and gritty. The maps can call for some different tactics. Some maps are smaller and demand more melee attacks while others allow for sniping and long ranged combat. The PvP is fun and it will definitely test your abilities. Be ready to fight.
Let us now talk about the exploration part of the game. When you get access to a new planet or area you have the option to Patrol the area. This means you can run around freely to do whatever you want. And there is plenty to do while you are patrolling the area. There are Patrol Missions available that you have to locate first then you can access them. There are a lot of hidden areas that are waiting to be explored and there are lots of loot to find. Speaking of loot there are 5 golden chests in each area (I think) that yield some good loot, so keep an eye out for that. All of this adds together to make the Patrol aspect of the game very fun and it never gets dull.
There are some more multiplayer aspects to the game as well. There are Raids that are very tough and demand some higher level players and gear (I have yet to do these). Each planet also has Strike missions that require a 3 team firesquad. These strikes are also very challenging and can take a few tries to complete. But these tougher missions can give you some good loot.
Overall I love this game. Yes the story could have encompassed more however it was satisfying. The multiplayer along with the Patrol, Strike Missions and Events make this game a great shooter to have. Personally I was very excited to get this game and I have to say that it has impressed.
Good work Bungie.

Phil Spencer talks candidly about missing out on both Destiny and Guitar Hero
So you're saying that Microsoft has missed out on so many huge gaming franchise in the last 25 years from GTA exclusivity to guitar hero and destiny it's just laughable they had so many misses
Best deal deal in gaming must be when Sony bought Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They made over 800 millions on Spiderman for the ps4 alone. Thats just crazy!
another Interview?
how is he the only one who loves the spotlight as much as he does lol
Let's not forget he also famously passed on Spider-man, Genshin Impact and GTA3.
However it's almost kind of cute how he can keep that sh1t-eating grin and say he's a 'no regrets' kind of guy, especially when you think how much just these 5 titles could have swung the world in Xbox's favour instead of Sonys.
How he's kept his job I don't know, he must sure be keeping Papa Nadella's shaft warm somehow.
"But, but Gamepass, he introduced that!!!"
Yes he did, and now look at Xbox, all it's exclusives are coming to Playstation now rendering the platform obsolete.

A former Halo and Destiny executive producer has said the live service model is "so much better for developers and players" than the one-off $60 purchase model.
Well the Poll on the website is suggesting he is massively wrong and out of touch.
A big majority of the vote going to "I prefer one off purchases with paid expansions"
Couldn't agree more.
I'll always think the concept is awesome. Back during the PS3 era I pictured a Spider-Man game that would be the traditional open world swinging playground that they typically are but every comic issue would be turned into dlc. It'd be the entirety of the Amazing line, 2 to 3 issues at a time, turnt to dlc until the entire Amazing line is told in form of a game. That concept eventually made it to the industry and they have consistently fk'd it up with every game that has been made as a "service".
There is nothing like sitting down , popping in a great single player game and blocking out the world.
