Deadspace, just like Mirrors Edge another under rated, under talked about game in 2008, I managed to platinum trophy it last weekend and judging from that, you guys can tell what kind of review I'm going to give it.
Reinventing the survival horror is how I shall put it. The game that was scarier than Resident Evil 5. Its good.
To start off with graphics, even now they still look pretty damn amazing, I was very impressed with the lighting, you have a torch on your weapons and when shined against something, there is an according shadow which I was impressed with. The game is really dark and moody but with its stellar presentation, it works, well. The biggest thing
I liked about the presentation was the no HUD, even your inventory was a hologram on your suit which you can be attacked and move around while browsing your inventory. The presentation and graphics are absolute top notch.
Now, where would a horror game be without sound? Fortunately Dead space has just that, great music, sound effects and voice overs. The music really, and I mean really sets the scene well, it makes it obvious when something is in the room with you and something isn't, a rather useful indicator. The sound effects are great, the guns, stomping and background sounds are top notch and even the voice acting is good. There are multiple audio and video logs picked up on the way as well only adding to the story.
Dead Space is a 3rd person survival horror with standard 3rd person shooter controls. There are a variety of different kinds of guns, some strange some you all know and love, I mean who doesn't love burning outer space zombie babies to a crisp? They are upgradable through nodes which can be purchased or found. The shooting is very solid, no big issues with controls and such, runs like a dream. One issue I did have was the stomp, the more powerful melee attack. It really doesn't work as well as it should, the enemy takes the damage but not the recoil which makes stomping very dangerous as when you shoot their legs off and they are on the ground, when stomping on them during mid attack, it does not interrupt their attack.
Apart from that the game brings new mechanics like kinesis, being able to move objects and shoot them as well, also stasis which allows you to slow down enemies or objects and last, zero gravity parts where you can jump from floor to roof. These all mix up the game making it enjoyable, there's also a rail shooter segment with canons and 2 mini games to enjoy.
Dead Space overall is a well made overall fun game, personally I did not find it as scary as some others said but its a hell of a lot scarier than any other game I've played recently. There are some fantastic bits that make you feel very uneasy and some bits that make you jump.
I also forgot to touch on a very important aspect, the story which luckily I though it certainly does not fall short. There are great twists and dialogue but one thing was lacking, Issac never talked giving distance from him and the player, otherwise it was very good. The replay value is relatively low,but this depends on the player, those trophy whores (like me) will get some decent time as it involves around 4 play throughs to get the platinum, otherwise the story is a good length having 12 chapters.
Overall I suggest those who like action, shooters, horrors to get this game and appreciate the unappreciated!

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.
I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Isaac Clarke of Dead Space fame has appeared in many games, both as a playable character and an Easter Egg. Have you played them all?

Dead Space recently received a popular remake that was faithful yet constructive, and the original BioShock is also deserving of this treatment.
No it doesn't need it. It was remastered in 60 fps last gen and still looks and plays great. Would be a waste of time, money and resources imo. It's games from 3 or 4 gens back that could use the remake treatment.
The games that need remaking are.
Resistance fall of man.
Motorstorm.
PS5 would produce something special.
There's been such an advancement in tech since the PS3 days. It would be awesome. DAY 1 BUY for me.
I would love this
Expand on the lore
Incorporate Bioshock Infinite and Bioshock 2 plot lines
Add room rooms or maybe even an extra area
Maybe new plasmids
Give Jack a personality and add voice acting, it worked for Isaac. Jack did speak at the start of the game so adding onto that and giving him convos between Atlas or Ryan would be great
Man could you imagine what bioshock would look like in ue5 with full raytracing, phwaaarrrhh.
Agreed. Both DS and ME were great IMO. Dead Space sh!ts all over RE5, again, IMO. Nice review.
Dead Space was EPIC. Resident Evil 5 is just as awesome but is more action oriented.
Yeah i would definitely agree this in my opinion was like RE5 since the actual RE5 was more like a gears of war or just action oriented but dont get me wrong RE5 co-op is fun as hell
Having Co-op took some survival horror aspect away from RE5 in my opinion. I mean in Deadspace, if your caught, there's no one to help you.
