This is what I do, I try my best to follow all the latest news and info on all the best games coming out. Dead Space kind of snuck up on me. For example, as a gamer my mind automatically jumps to titles with a proven name like GTA, Resident Evil, etc...etc...(list any highly successful video game franchise here).
And then there are titles like Dead Space. I must admit, yeah I knew this game was coming out, I knew it looked cool, I knew it was made by a pretty decent company. But how many times has a game looked cool only to disappoint once you get back from picking up your preorder. And believe me, spending upwards of $65 on a video game only to be bored with it in one hour is always a bad feeling.
And besides, when there are so many titles coming out at this time of year, it just makes your job of a gamer that much harder to sift through all the display cases and fancy looking covers to find that really good title that keeps you coming back for more...and that is what Dead Space is and then some.
---The Review---
Graphics-- This game looks great. The only graphical miscues i've noticed are a few areas in shadowing and textures, but these are very few and far in between. You can find graphical miscues in any game if you hold a microscope to the T.V. long enough. But long story short, this game has good looking graphics.
Sound-- Superb. I rarely sum things up in one word, but I will here. I have jumped more times in this game than I care to mention because just when you think they have backed up on the freakiness, you'll turn a corner and BOOM!
Gameplay-- I think this is also done quite well. Imagine a game like RE 4 but a little more smoother and easier to control. The weapons are very easy to aim and control and can be enjoyed by the novice or the shooting veteran. Dead Space has a map system that is very easy to use. It also utilizes a triangulation locator for objectives so any time you are lost, one click of the R3 button and the game pretty much draws a line for you to follow.
The only thing I've had a little trouble with was the camera. Not that the camera is bad, but there are a few spots in the game where the camera becomes an issue. For example, there are times when you are in Zero Gravity and you have to 'fly' to another part of the room, and the camera seems to always get locked in an area you don't want it to be.
Replay Value-- From what I can tell it is very good. There is an upgrade system to the weapons that will take a second playthrough to finish them all. And not to mention, there are various items hidden throughout that will keep you coming back. If you just follow the storyline and don't explore, you will definetely miss out on a lot of great items.
Overall-- If you are a fan of either the shooting genre, horror genre, or just a fan of great video games overall, buy this game. I came across this game by accident and I have not regretted a second of it. Dead Space can feel a bit repetitive at times but it also changes things up enough to keep you guessing. One of my favorite things is that the developers don't keep using the same scare tactics to grab you. You will be scared playing this game. Things jump at you in the weirdest places and unless your playing along with a walkthrough, you'll never be able to guess where the next monster is coming from.

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.
I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Isaac Clarke of Dead Space fame has appeared in many games, both as a playable character and an Easter Egg. Have you played them all?

Dead Space recently received a popular remake that was faithful yet constructive, and the original BioShock is also deserving of this treatment.
No it doesn't need it. It was remastered in 60 fps last gen and still looks and plays great. Would be a waste of time, money and resources imo. It's games from 3 or 4 gens back that could use the remake treatment.
The games that need remaking are.
Resistance fall of man.
Motorstorm.
PS5 would produce something special.
There's been such an advancement in tech since the PS3 days. It would be awesome. DAY 1 BUY for me.
I would love this
Expand on the lore
Incorporate Bioshock Infinite and Bioshock 2 plot lines
Add room rooms or maybe even an extra area
Maybe new plasmids
Give Jack a personality and add voice acting, it worked for Isaac. Jack did speak at the start of the game so adding onto that and giving him convos between Atlas or Ryan would be great
Man could you imagine what bioshock would look like in ue5 with full raytracing, phwaaarrrhh.
I can't wait for this game! Your review makes me want it so baad.
Amazing game. I beat it last night. I was floored.
(Possible spoiler) The very last cut scene made any possible doubts I had about the game well forgotten(Spoiler over)
The bosses, The puzzles, the story, I did not see one frame rate hiccup even after having close to 15 guys on screen at a time with environment factors and everything... Simply flawless.
My only issue with the game was the "Damn it Issac you'll need a XXX key to get into YYY area and thats on the total opposite side of where you wanna be" stuff that happened far too often... They made good use of areas that required you to pass through multiple times while keeping variety. I just feel that the "OMG Issac we need you to make a potion by going in 15 different directions"
Either way great game and a must buy. Game on.
from what everyone is saying, it sounds like a great game
I really enjoyed Dead Space. There are some parts in the game that may seem a little repetitive, but the game throws different so much at you and almost always keeps things interesting.
Plus, the fact that one of the creatures can pop out at almost any place makes you always cautious and tense while playing the game. One other thing that I like is that usually whenever you are being attacked by one enemy in front of you, there is usually one other enemy or more that's behind you.
One part that really made me jump in Dead Space was getting off of the elevator during one of the first few Chapters and as the elevator door opened one of the creatures was running towards me at full speed.... after that incident I always had my gun drawn while getting off the elevator.
One other part in the game that scared the living heck out of me was getting an item that was on the wall, and after I got the item, one of the creatures popped out of a window right beside me. The combination of the Music and Atmosphere in the game makes Dead Space a VERY good Survival Horror game.... the music in Dead Space is set up like Uncharted to me because the Music in the game comes on at the right time, but I can't really explain it, anyone that's played Uncharted knows what I'm talking about.
One other thing I like about Dead Space is there is virtually NO HUD and almost everything is kept in-game.
Dead Space is also the 2nd longest PS3 game I've played, with MGS4 being the longest. It took me a little over 16 hours to complete Dead Space on Medium Difficulty and after playing it, I really felt satisfied.
*Possible Spoiler*
The ending in Dead Space made me wonder if there was a chance Issac could have survived... I'm assuming that there will be a Dead Space 2 if EA went through the trouble of producing a new IP like Dead Space, but I guess that if Issac didn't survive, there will be a new lead character for the next game. * End of Spoiler *
The next thing I plan to do is to go through the game a second time on the hardest difficulty setting. Plus, there was 3 guns that I didn't even buy (I only bought 3 other guns) and I want to try out the guns I didn't even buy (FlameThrower, Ripper, Force Gun).
Really is a great game. Still need to finish it as I'm only on Chapter 10 but still wonderful stuff :)
I like how they even have some games in the game. A shooting gallery and a basketball type game in zero gravity. Those are nice additions
