Pardon the incredibly juvenile teaser tag but possibly the most polarizing game ever in the industry is on time with it's yearly release. To be perfectly honest, I despise the company (not shocking?) for pumping out the same nonsense year in and year out but told myself I'll give the series a shot once more when the next game is more focused on current gen hardware. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is the latest game in a series that has been milked and sucked dry but from trailer's and gameplay footage I've seen it looked to have some things going for it.
Everything is made possibly with the futuristic setting. In a somewhat near future, approximately 40 years from now, the world has seem a lot of technological advancements, especially on the battle field. The leader of these weapons and such is a very powerful PMC group called Atlas, which is owned by Irons (Kevin Spacey). The main character's name who escapes me was once a Marine who ended up losing an arm during a mission for the Marines. Irons has the means to get....ah, Mitchell, back on the battlefield and the two begin a very touching father son bond--not really. Now maybe I missed something but I'm pretty sure Mr. Spacey was portrayed as the villain from the trailers and whatnot. I was very confused when they tried to make him seem like a good guy in the beginning when I was just waiting for the big "stab you in the back twist". Like a pyro playing with matches in a firework factory...you saw it coming. Nothing about the campaign was very good. The action felt bland. The series typically goes for some over the top hollywood scenes but it felt pretty tame to me. There weren't many iconic set pieces that kept the game from becoming a snore fest and nothing felt really advanced either, outside of the Exo suit. It was most definitely forgettable and possibly the worst of the campaigns I've played.
The biggest draw of course is the multiplayer. Campaign is just the icing on the cake when it comes to this series but the longevity is in that delicious cake, mmmmmmm. Advanced Warfare spices up the stale and repetitive nature of the MP with the introduction of the Exo Suit. Highly advanced piece of equipment that lets you double jump, dash and strafe quickly. This creates a very satisfying fast pace experience that keeps your attention for the duration of your session. Moving from one area to the next is quick and attacking other players is swift. Outmanuvering them the gain the advantage, or fool them always puts a smile on my face. There are also Exo abilities that allow you to move even faster with a boost, go invisible (but still very visible), Hoover and more. When it comes to the weapons, perks and whatnot, nothing really screams advanced with exception of the "laser" gun, and a few other things. You have pretty much seen it all in these futuristic games. Score streaks seem recycled and only really 1 true new game mode. Sledgehammer missed the boat in making sure every area of the game was fresh with new ideas.
I'm not sure how things have been done in the past but you essentially have 13 slot points as I like to think of it. Each slot takes up one point and each point can be used for point streaks, perks, secondary and primary weapons along with attachments. You always try to maximize your load out by trying to match it up to your play style but you always seem to wish you had that 1 more extra point.
The game has 13 maps, some which have cool dynamic events that change the battle field in some way but not all of them have it, which would have been pretty sweet. There are also your very familiar game modes like TDM, Domination, Search and Destroy, along with 10 others. Momentum, Uplink and Hardpoint are my favorites. Sadly there is no Gun Game, Zombies (for now, although DLC..barf), of even Sabotage. There is an Exo Survival mode where you and 3 other most survive waves of enemies. Upgrading weapons and Exo skeleton will ensure you of the sweet taste of victory....probably not.
My return to the series isn't really a bad one. It is actually better than the previous installments--at least when it comes to the MP. Single player is a different story just was very poor from beginning to end. Even though I will probably skip out on the series until Playstation 5 hits the market, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare ended up as better step in the right direction.

Game Rant Writes "With rumors swirling about a sequel to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Sledgehammer Games can bring back a few weapons for a modern encore."

GR: "If one series truly defined the seventh generation of consoles it was Call of Duty. Sadly, the series has struggled to reach the same heights on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and only Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare feels like the previous era of innovation and top-notch storytelling."
I quite enjoyed it but I think black ops 3 was the high point.
Modern warfare could be if a few tweaks are made and the new maps are good.
The campaign was OK, but the guns sounded like cap guns and the multiplayer maps were not memorable at all.

With the impending launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, we've gone a bit nostalgiac and are taking a look at the top 10 Call of Duty games.
